Paul George has some of the best clutch statistics in the league (from 5 minutes to the end of close games). Game winners he may not hit, but he'll get you there.
Ingram is not gona blow up next yr, having butler and pg13 to learn from can only make him better....theres also good chance Ingram can still grow and put on enough weight to play PF.....I dont think russell will ever be good defensively, rather keep the guy whos a 2 way player.
I wish I could "like" this a million times. It's why I'm pretty much convinced this summer that George should be our second step. Our first step should be getting someone impactful in FA if we can. If not, then trading for someone impactful that's NOT Paul George. We need to make this place attractive to Paul George next summer. It makes more sense to move some of our kids for another piece and letting George just make it here on his own. Now if Paul George demands a trade just to the Lakers, then I'd be willing to part with some minor pieces to speed up that process. None of our main assets of course because we have all the power, but maybe a few of our secondary assets so we can get better that much faster.
And to counter your view, Minn has been picking in the top 10 for nearly a decade, have 2 #1 pick, one has alreadtly become a stud (kat) and they're no closer to being good when they 1st started accumulating their youths
Get indy to take mozgov with the pick and randle, jc. Stretch dung (not enough asset to attach to get anyone to bite). Either trade black for a future 2nd rd pick or dont pick up his option. That should get us within range to offer hayward near max, if more is needed stretch brewer too or add him to the pg13 pkg and throw in hou 1st along with him
Pretty sure that Hayward will either remain a Jazz man or sign with the C Bags. The Brad Stevens connection should count for something
not the one where the whole salary comes off the books, its the one where we have to pay out the rest of his salary over 5yrs or something like that. That one is always in place, Det just did it a few yrs back with Josh Smith
Very interesting. Didn't know he could make THAT much more. Thats crazy. So if he gets on the all nba team our chances of getting him seem less likely. That being said Lebron, kawhi, kd, jimmy, giannis might have a say in the matter.
another point to ad, with Pel trade for Cuz, Davis might now also be considered a Foward, adding more issues to PG to be on it this yr. There is also Draymond, Griffin, Hayward. I dont think he'll make this yr, it'll have to be next yr if he makes it at all.
It is unfortunately media voted on for the All NBA teams, I'm sure some are ready to screw over the Lakers.
Tens of millions - nearly $100M. But, honestly, I'm not certain he deserves it. Still, it's pretty bizarre for an incentive-based component of your contract to be in the hands of sports writers. Then again, maybe it's not so strange. Tenure is often determined by publications, decisions about which are made by faculty at other other institutions, but at least they're all faculty. I don't know. This feels weird to me.
Unfortunately with this provision, IF Paul George makes the all NBA team, I think the possibility drops to 0%. PG (nobody really) is not going to turn down $200+ million, similar to how nobody has turned down the "rookie max" extension, regardless of how poor the team situation is. And if Indiana locks him into that $200+ million extension, there is 0 reason to trade him. Just another domino outside of our control to wait to fall.
I mean, it's not THAT strange. All sports have always been meritocratic, this is just that principle to the Nth degree. If anything, I would rather (like you, I imagine) have the players vote on this rather than the media. Players don't have as much incentive to mess with other guys money as outsiders do (like if every vote getter in the LA market decided to collude to keep him off so he could force his way to LA).
Yes, I believe that is the case, although I think it was more that management didn't want to invest that money into Boogie. If I recall correctly, Boogie was very vocal about wanting to sign the extension and play in Sacramento. In PG's case, management definitely wants to spend the money on him and the only reason to trade him is the threat of him walking for nothing. If he signs, that threat is gone.
That first scenario I could see happening and really being foul play. Whereas the 2nd I feel is totally and ethically fine from the L.A. sportswriters.
