Nah, I'm not giving away IMO our best young player in order to help clean up one of Mitch's messes. Ingram is 19, he has a chance to one day BE a Paul George or Kawhi Leonard, I'm not trading that away to try and win now when we aren't going to win now. And then if Paul George were to walk next offseason and we gave up Ingram for a 1 year rental, ooh man I'd be devastated. I offer Randle, JC, the 27th and work from there to match salaries. Randle is almost up for his next contract, and JC seems to be what he is gonna be but is on a reasonable deal for what he gives you. If I can hang onto Russell, Ingram, Nance, and Zubac, and add PG, that's a heck of a start. Then if we get that top 3 pick, if you don't use that to try and get PG, you can use it to try and land another all-star or close to AS talent, who knows, maybe even Jimmy Butler if the Bulls are desperate.

what's "win now"? because george is most certainly going to help you win more than ingram. for the next few years.

at least you'd be out of mozgov cap hell?

me too. they should reject that.

part of why his trade value is probably pretty low.

    again.

our only real assets are russell and ingram. if we keep our pick, that's three. everything else is fairly uninteresting to other teams, imo. to get a star of george's caliber, you have to give up one of those three (not two, but not zero). if they demand two, i tell them to take a walk and prepare for my max offer to him in FA next year. but if they'll take one, leave me everything else, and take a contract i don't like...i'm more than listening.

Win now means championship. And I'm ok with trading Russell+Deng+27th pick, but no, not Ingram. In fact if we did get that top 3 pick and could use it to get Butler you'd probably have to trade Russell anyway as Butler, George, and Ingram take up the 1-3 spots. I'm sorry I'm just not for risking Ingram on a 1 year rental, if George walks we would regret letting go of Ingram for a decade.

yeah, see...this is a recency effect. russell's been a more promising player than ingram. it's really not close, imo. i dislike russell's mentality, but results are results.

i wouldn't risk either on a one-year rental, which is why you make sure that's not the case prior to trade time. everyone feels burned by howard, but he NEVER stated that he even wanted to stay. it made me nervous the whole time. also, howard was a d******.

separate issue: i'm not as bullish on jimmy butler. his attitude concerns me, and i wonder if he can actually co-exist with other players who need touches. i don't have those worries with george. thus, ingram, russell, and the top 3 pick are all out of bounds for me in butler talks unless (again) i'm dumping moz or deng on them in the process.

anyway, i guess we're back to this being the ingram thread now. i wish i could share the late-season enthusiasm, but i'm not going to just forget the 65 games that happened before. i like him a lot, but he hasn't shown the real superstar stuff--not such that he's off limits in trade talks.

This is not a recency effect for me, I've been high on Ingram ever since we learned we had the #2 pick in the draft last lottery. I wanted Ingram because he has all the tools to be a great player, possibly even a star player. Some things you can teach, some things you can't. You can't teach this kid's length, you can't teach feel for the game like he has (which he displayed more than half the season with his passing ability and ability to be in the right spots), and you don't easily find someone with his potential to be a 2-way player. I don't want to lose Russell either, but if I had to make a choice he's the one to go, because for me he has more replaceable qualities.

Ingram is definitely the Last Player I'd want to lose in a trade.. But, If it was something like BI + Houston's 1st for George, I'd have to seriously consider it.

Count me in on not trading Ingram for anybody team. Yeah he wasn't burning up the stat sheets his rookie year, but he's shown me enough over the course of the season to make me think he's gonna be the best player on this team in the future. If it means not getting PG so be it. If he really wants to come here, he'll be here in free agency if he doesn't get an extension. And I really doubt the front office is even considering trading him anyway what with their request of him to work out with Kobe over the summer. Stranger things have happened, yes but I really doubt it.

I've agreed with almost everything you said; if I'm comparing our situation to the 90's, some of the players that we drafted: Tony Smith, Elden Campbelll, Anthony Jones, Duane Cooper, Anthony Peeler, Nick Van Exel, Eddie, Jones, Frankie King, Derek Fisher, That's not all of them, but you get the drift; and of course we traded for Kobe.

Now, how many of those players were on our championship team with Shaq and Kobe? Besides Fish and Kobe? None, that I can think of. Now I know the dynamics and landscape have changed: particularly the way we have to navigate through the Collective Bargaining Agreement. We have to be intelligent, detailed, and really think 2-3 moves ahead in today's NBA. No doubt about that.

However, I think it's important (as I've said when we drafted these players) too not get too emotionally attached. There is a very real possibility that when we are in contention most of these guys will not be around.

Ingram is the last kid, I'd want to get rid of: for sure. Russell and Ingram, actually, but if there is a deal involving 1 of them to get Paul George, I might do it. I love those 2 in particularly, but it is what it is.

I will say this, though: judging from the rhetoric and the way the FO speaks so glowingly about Ingram, I'd say he is here next year and for years to come...

At this point, the only two of our young guns I'd be willing to part with is JC and Randle. I have no doubt that by the time Ingram is 24, he'll be one of the premier small forwards in the league.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Ingram and Russell. I'd help either of them pack to bring in Paul George.

I've said a few times I don't view anyone on the team as untouchable and still feel that way.

And I completely agree with the thought that a lot of these guys could and probably will be gone on the path back to being a contender and that we shouldn't get attached to particular players.

I think we're pumping up how much we like guys to inflate their value on the trade market, which is the smart thing to do. No one should be shocked if we ship someone out.

Wasn't Magic actually rumored to be in favor of trading Ingram for Cousins?

My one and only concern with BI going forward is the freak physics related injury due to his slight build. He's a star in the making and it would be incredibly short sighted and stupid to trade him at 20 years of age. He has IT.

I wouldn't worry about his slight build causing injury, instead if you're going to worry at all worry that he puts on too much weight or muscle during the off-season that causes injury to ligaments/tendons like it did to Ben Simmons.

Personally I'm not concerned about this, because Brandon himself talked about it during his exit interview that even knowing he wants to do all this extra work in the off-season and gain more weight that he has to be smart about it to get cause an injury. He'll be just fine. I'm not worried at all.

If Coop played the way he did for 12 years, BI will be fine. He has the frame to fill out too. BI will need to take what he did the last 20+ games and turn it into 82 next year. If he does that, he will improve greatly. If he starts dropping 20 a game next year, the Lakers will have their superstar in the making.

To clarify, it seems he would be much more vulnerable to the freak having your leg planted on the ground and then like happened to Bynum someone falls on it or rolls on it hyperextending the joint or breaking one of his tiny bones. Sure .... could happen to anyone's leg but who would you bet on coming out of it better? Zu with his tree trunk legs or BI? That's why I also mentioned physics. Otherwise I was amazed at how much contact he sought and absorbed against the bigs down low at his rookie weight all season long.

Ingram + Deng for Goerge is certainly not a horrible trade for LA. Thats BS. Its a good trade but its not a great trade.

Ingram is last on my moving list but we are a 26-56 team. There is no such thing as untouchable. I just don't want to mortgage the future for short term pretention. Either you prepare to contend or you do not give up the future. Just making the playoffs for 5 years isn't what this franchise is all about. Its Championship or bust.

Getting a star certainly is not going to accomplish that but if the Lakers brass has a plan, it could be a first step.

One thing is clear...without a real star, you don't win. You need 3 to 4 to contend with the elite teams.

That's a big IF and the point I've been making. IF we have multiple trades in line to get back into contention, then I'm all in. Trade all our kids. Otherwise, there's no rush to get back to mediocrity.

We need one homegrown star at the very least from my fan's perspective. Baylor, West, Magic, Kobe as prime examples. BI our best shot with Zu behind him and Russell if he gets his head right. Can't give them ALL up. Would still be no guarantee.

You trade BI and the Lakers turn into Presti and the Thunder after the Harden trade.
