Wilt only averaged 31 MORE points than Russell. Elgin at 4th is like Kobe when he averaged 35 and came in 4th.

Never fouled out of a game in his career. Simply amazing. That season of 48.5 accounted for OT games. He definitely put in work, according to 20,000 women.

Probably because he stopped playing D once he got four or five fouls. I never saw why that was impressive. Because Wilt cared about his numbers. There are some people that said the year he led the league in assists, he would purposely pass up open shots.

As far as them only caring about winning, that's hypocritical considering outside of Russell, the other 3 have a combined 4 titles, with an asterisk on Baylor's.

yeah, exactly as i feared. the criteria are so nebulous that the guy who wouldn't finish first in any sensible system ends up getting the award.

    best record: leonard.
    biggest overall impact: lebron
    most outstanding season: westbrook
likely winner: none of the above, but really great beard. will go down in history as "the guy who knew how to draw fouls".

    go nba.

Agree @abeer3 The guy doesn't play one end of the court. No way I'd give him MVP. Ever.

Lebron fans feel this should be about his 8th MVP

They should feel fortunate he's got as many as he does. Look at the way the media robbed Shaq and Kobe for years.

The media changes the criteria to fit their agenda. There is no firm definition.

Harden: will put the final touch to their created best SG in the league

Westbrook: if he finishes the season averaging a triple double and faces warriors in first round

Kawhi: not big enough a character for the media to parade around, maybe if Spurs end up with best record

Lebron: always a dark horse in the race because the media loves him

It's not that ridiculous. Remember that MVP was voted by the players back then. The players chose Russell, not the media.

The players who went up against both players decided that Russell was more valuable. They also just liked him more. Lol.

I believe the media voted for the all-nba teams though, which is why Wilt was on the all-nba first team while Russell was on the all-nba second team. That makes for one of the weirdest stats though. The MVP of the league was on the all-nba second team. Lol.

You also have to look beyond basic box score stats. Russell is the best defensive player on all-time. His impact on defense was on a completely different level. It's the reason why those C Bags teams went from being far and away the best defensive team with him to one of the worst without him. That season, Wilt's 3 lowest scoring games also came against Bill Russell.

My comment was directed to all 4 of their stats, not Russell winning MVP.

you'd hope people would have learned from those nash mistakes. this is eerily similar. other more deserving candidates, but give it to the media darling in the up-tempo, stat-inflating system.

this was partly my point. this guy's sham system got two undeserving mvps already; he's probably adding a third. i'm guessing the end result will be the same in terms of winning at the highest level.

d'antoni's made a career of capitalizing on the dregs of the league, imo. his system and the players that thrive in it tend to get exposed on the biggest stages.

Morey campaigning for Harden on his Twitter and calling out Westbrook "round numbers" on a regular basis is pathetic
