I like how when you Google Bre Ladd the box on the right identifies her as Bre Ladd: Luke Walton's Wife. That's her title. Seems like we need another Day Without Women to straighten stuff like that out.

    A) I don't think Luke's smile had anything to do with the girl. A guy behind her is smiling, too. I presume the dude with the mic said something bizarre.

    B) Wasn't Bre a very good college athlete? Volleyball?

    A) They were looking at the person asking a question about if Kobe would be involved and he looked at Kobe and smiled. Ding in the back does it too. Top of Kobe's head is at the bottom of the frame.

    B) pretty good, holds school record for most blocks.

I'm still high on Luke, but he showed some major rookie mistakes tonight.

I'm only referring to this game, yes, as it's the one we just saw. I'm sure he makes rookie mistakes all the time, but I said tonight he made some major ones. You have to remind your team there's only 5 seconds on the shot clock, that can't happen.

Its really frustrating seeing little to no progress on the defensive side as season progresses, they seem to be getting worse

Agreed, but I do see tiny individual improvements on D in certain players, and some better defensive energy with certain lineups. For the most part though, the team seems to have checked out as they know they have nothing to play for. No playoffs, and our front office saying publicly keeping that pick is very important to us.

When you hire a rookie coach you have to be willing to accept rookie mistakes. He will grow like the young players. Likely that won't happen again. I liked the defensive effort of this starting group. The first stage of good defense is consistent effort.

Russell said it was his fault and Luke said it was his mistake not letting his guys know. Nice to see a coach realize when he messed up even though its really on both of them.

Sure Luke is a rookie and is no Carlisle but this still raises some serious questions marks about Luke's staff abilities to teach and organize a team D

Carlisle is one of the best coaches in the league and has had a chance to establish his systems for years. Luke is going to make mistakes, but that's a completely unfair comparison.

I agree with real. Luke is going to make mistakes but thats OK, he is 36 for godessake.

With that said, we need to be able to hold everyone accountable here, regardless of background and legit or less legit excuses. The new front office has so far been full of praise for Walton, so he is an untouchable right now.

But in professional sports things change fast. I think Luke is our coach of the future though. A coach isn't doing things by himself, its the players that have to execute. You can fall on deaf ears all day, the result is the same.

Part of the reason why the FO is high on Luke is because players (including FA's) like him. He's closer to their age, and he understands modern players more than older coaches.

Also, Luke's path to coaching is similar to the path Magic and Rob have taken. He became a coach after being a player for 10 years and an assistant for 2 years. Rob is becoming a GM after 20 years as an agent. Magic is running the Lakers basketball operations after running retail businesses for over 20 years. All of them are transitioning to a new phase in their professional careers, and are willing to work together to figure out this new path. Brave new world.

Well said. I think the point specifically about FAs is important. If FAs didn't want to play with him, I think they'd be less complimentary, but I wouldn't underestimate that factor.

Tough night for Luke and several players but it should definitely be expected. My faith in Luke hasn't wavered.
