I still would not extend Randle this off-season even though he will be eligible for a contract extension. Makes sense to wait another year to see how he develops and also preserve cap space for 2018 off-season.
There was talk about the contract extension for Julius. What about Embiid? He has played 31 games so far, lets say he plays 60 next year-like this year-beast mode. What Will he get?
I'd guess he gets a Steph Curry deal. Something making around 15 million a year for 3-4 years. He was great in the time he could play, but the Sixers would be set back quite a bit without him panning out (I doubt he pans out).
The Magic love that guy. I don't particularly, but they're giving him every opportunity to be the point guard of their future.
I don't know if it's just that I hate his game (but I do), but he seems to be a drag on the team. If it weren't for his screens, I don't think I'd play him. Maybe that's how I have to think of him; he's not the player I want, but he does some things well - rebounds, screens (as long as they let him get away with them).
He hit 2 threes today so that's a good sign!!! I still believe in randle give him one more off season and see if he can improve
He's already made strides. It's really just hate at this point to not acknowledge it. He's improved nearly across the board outside of a few key areas (outside shooting and defensive awareness/timing). He's scoring better and more efficiently, he's passing the ball more efficiently, and lately he's back to affecting the game on the glass. I understand being frustrated with him at times because he can be frustrating, but he's absolutely improved. There's just some people that won't ever really give him that credit and that's fine. I thought he was okay tonight, good not great. He was clearly frustrated by the physicality of Phoenix around the rim and was at times stymied by Chriss's athleticism and Len's size. Still he took three 3s which is the most he's taken all year. They were all open and two of them looked great. If he continues to take that shot (Nance too), the offense opens up and it already happened in this game. I don't have any idea why he hasn't been shooting more often this year. I don't care if he's missed 3-4 of them already, if he's wide open he's got to take the shot. The problem is if he misses early, he stops shooting. Can't have that mentality.
He should have Ingram's mentality and just keep shooting the 3 ball when he's open whether he's happy with the % or not ....will only help doing it in games. Like you say, same with Nance.
yeah, his value is high right now, and i have strong doubts as to whether he'll play a full season. at best, you're looking at a yao-like career, imo. understand reluctance, though, as if he were fully healthy, he's a franchise player for sure. as for randle, i think he certainly improved. his right hand is slightly better. his finishing is slightly better. his perimeter shot is marginally better. but as i've said before, i still don't see him making good basketball plays away from the ball on either end. it's really limiting to the team that we have a few players like that; randle is kind of the ringleader, though clarkson is a close second. we traded lou, who was another. it's hard to win with guys who can't function within a team scheme.
I mean I haven't really seen any player on our team consistently make the right plays off the ball. Every single one of them is a ball watcher that gets beat backdoor fairly regularly. Ingram is particularly susceptible. Young is pretty susceptible. Nance, Clarkson, Russell, Randle... All of them have that problem. I think for the most part it's a young person thing. If I had to point to Randle's biggest issues right now it's that he still doesn't shoot enough jumpers and his timing is off defensively. He has the physical ability to make plays defensively off the ball, but he's a step or half a step late on 90% of possessions. Offensively off the ball, I think the only really decent player we have is Ingram. He relocates pretty well and is really finding his way as a cutter. Russell and Young are okay at it too. Randle and Clarkson are terrible at it though, usually drifting into the ballhandler's path.
This is exactly what I have been thinking about Randle. It's why I said I wouldn't play him if it weren't for his screens. I'm thrilled that he's getting assists, but his assists come because guys move without the ball when Randle has it. It could be because people are so terrified of Randle's ability to drive (which he doesn't seem to be doing as much this season) that they give him some room - and he makes a simple pass. I wish he could shoot or defend though. I'd have zero reservations about him.
