Why wouldnt we just offer them #2 instead of diluting it down to 2 lesser pick? 2 by itself will always be better than 2 later lotteries regardless of how deep a draft is
When's the last time anybody actually signed in Indiana? 2 lottery guys that will be there for 4 years at least is better than 1.
I dont think you understand the concept of the draft.....2 lottery guys is not better than 1 when the 1 is a potential perenail star type, its obviously a crap shoot but the line of thinking is the higher the draft pick the better the talent or at least its suppose to work that way.
Lol. First, nice attempt of an attack. "I don't think"... Second, obviously in a normal draft you'd want the #2 pick. But in a draft this deep, which I'm not sure you understand how deep this draft is, you think about it. See two can play that game. When Dennis Smith and Johnathan Isaak might fall to them with those 2 picks.
I haven't really followed the PG closely but from what I gather in the Sam Amick thing Paul, or his camp, have said he will sign in LAL in '18 if Indy isn't contending (and they won't be). If that's the case, our team could use another year of growth so why would we throw much at Indy for him this summer? I mean if it's just to avoid him getting traded this summer to a team that his presence really puts over the top and makes a contender (C-Bags) and consequently convinces him to stay, then I get it. But if he's saying he's coming here why not wait it out and not give up anything? Now if Bird would take one of DAR/Randle and this year's pick + Houston's pick AND one of Moz/Deng this summer then I could see talking business.
Wasn't meant as an attack, just saying regardless how deep the top 2 are supposedly potential stars, i dont know how the 2 guys you listed are viewed, i jist know smith guy is 6 2 with suspect shooting, dont know who the other guy is but he's projected to go 4th in mocks and if they're falling as per your stance doesnt that mean they might not be viewed as that talented?
Well certain mocks have players "falling" because teams keep switching in draft order. Trust me in a normal draft, you don't even think about it. But this draft is so deep to where you never know. Plus if they do draft Lonzo at #2, they have to deal with his father saying crazy stuff and how he wants to be a Laker. Do they want to go thru the PG cycle again? Talent wise, Lonzo will win you more games right away than the other 2. But that'll keep them stuck in draft lottery hell because they won't be able to draft the top players because they won't suck badly enough, a la Sacramento Kings the past 5 years.
DLo and our (if we keep it) top-3 pick??? The only way I'm trading for George this offseason is by giving up one of Ingram/DLo/Top-3 pick and taking back Monta's contract. That's a heck of a return for Indy on a guy they must think is probably leaving the following summer if they're trading him this Summer. Would be a great first step towards rebuilding around Turner with nice draft capital and financial flexibility moving forward. Obviously, there would be more pieces tossed in to make the salaries work. We'd probably have to part with other young talent that's a tier below the 3 assets I prevoiusly mentioned in Clarkson & either Randle or Nance, but that's what you have to do to get a Paul George. Again, no way I give up 2 of Ingram/DLo/Top-3 pick when we're getting such strong indications that PG wants to outright sign here.
Yeah, Indiana is in no position to be getting anymore than we want to give them. Randle+Clarkson+Hou 1st is what I start with. The other deal I would consider is Russell+Deng+Hou 1st. Otherwise, we wait.
Totally fair line of thinking. I'd be ok reluctantly parting with one of them in order to secure PG this offseason. The thought of Boston swooping in this offseason and him liking it there is the main reason why I'd be more aggressive (within reason) this offseason than we were this past trade deadline.
two guys I'd prefer to see to stick around I'm open to others based upon the deals, but I don't think you give up on these two.
If the Lakers can get George with a package around Randle and Clarkson, they would be insane not to. But Indy ain't making that deal...now if we get the #1 or #2 pick in the draft...that price gets steep (Randle, Clarkson, #1/#2 pick)...too steep for my taste, especially if George wants to force his way to LA.
