Yes, but since hindsight is 50/50, and by the time you consider our odds for winning the remaining games, and the fact other teams are preparing for the home stretch and are equally as awful or worse than us, and we now have sprinkled some magic on the equation, the odds of keeping the pick currently require a much more complex equation.

In the words of Mr Jerry West, "I've seen enough."

Ball is the real deal. Special. We need to do everything we can to get him.

Watching the game was frustrating because he set so many people up, mainly Nick in that 1st half with open looks, but only had 5 assists at the end of the night to show for it. I love it when Russell is aggressive. Normally we don't seem him show a lot of emotion on the court (one of many complaints from some fans on here) but last night he was irritated about missing some great looks from 3 which was nice to see.

For the people comparing Devin Booker to Russell at this stage. It must be nice to be Booker who doesn't have to focus on creating for others and playing PG like Russell. Booker can just play off ball and look for his shot at priority #1. Russell in a 20-30 QA Session with Lakers.com Mike Trudell one or two weeks ago said that he only started to play PG when he was a senior in HS. So that means he's had only 3 years experience of being a PG. Not bad when you put that into perspective.

glad someone else pointed this out about all the opportunities he created for his teammates. Could easy have had 10 assists the other night.

How about we wait till Ball plays in the NBA before we give him any of these over Russell.

Well I've been preaching since November that Russell should be utilized and developed as a score-first guard. I think it will hamper his growth by putting a lid on his greatest strength. He's a natural as a scorer, much like Kobe. Even Kobe, throughout his career, struggled balancing the scoring/faciliating role... and we're expecting Russell to figure it out at 21?

I just want him play to his strengths. Once he can control the game as a scorer, then the passing game will open up for him.

BTW don't forget to label me a hater for having these thoughts.

Ball just seems smooth. The game kinda slows down for him. His ability to find players easy buckets is a huge plus.

The shot is a bit odd, though. But it's not like people haven't succeeded with flaws like that. If you can ball, you can ball.

We need to tank hard to ensure we keep this pick. We need as many assets and possible at this stage in the game.

we can tank as hard as we want, odds are still against keeping the pick. odds are also against any of the picks being a marked improvement over russell, too.

    From Lakers Film Room:

"I can't speak on Fultz or Smith yet, but I think D'Lonzo would be a phenomenal combination. The thing that's so remarkable about Lonzo is that he's leading the country in assists without really dominating the ball. He has it and either attacks, shoots, or moves it. He is TAILOR MADE for the ball & player movement heavy style of play that Luke presumably wants to run, a la Golden State or San Antonio. He also plays with a pace that Russell lacks. We'd get a lot more easy/early shots w/Lonzo on the court, with Russell actually being one of the biggest beneficiaries of that. He's had so few spot up attempts in semi-transition this year.

Conversely, some of Lonzo's question marks/weaknesses on offense are things that Russell does pretty well, particularly running pick & rolls and creating his own shot. Defensively, I actually think Lonzo's gonna be a plus defender on SGs, and Russell isn't nearly as bad as he's made out to be against PGs."

I always like when he says something I've been saying because he can say it better than I can.

When I try to say this, it's a shot at Russell and I insult portions of the fan base.

the shots at russell are from those suggesting he can't play pg well. he can. if the lakers got another ballhandling guard, it wouldn't be a problem, because russell can ALSO play off the ball at times. this doesn't mean that a) the lakers really need another ballhandling guard or that b) russell isn't a pg.

this is my problem with the statements in this thread.

Honestly, I think most the complaints about Russell wouldn't be there if he exhibited a little more humble, workman like attitude. Skill wise he's probably about where he should be. The problem is his mouth makes him look worse than he actually is.
