Russell being ball dominant is what will dictate the Lakers for the next decade. He needs to be Steve Nash in 3 or 4 years. Nash didn't become Nash until year 9. Russell needs to be coached and nurtured and he needs to be allowed to develop. You do not find guys with his skill set very often. I truly believe he will have 20 point 10 assists seasons in the future. He needs the right coach, which he has, and the right horses that can execute an offense and finish.

And that's where maturity comes in. If he's a mature young man, he learns how to own a situation and move on from it. You be strong about it and lead by example and others will follow. I don't think he has the personality that guys want to follow.

As for @gcclaker saying he's coachable, I think he is... but he's said this stuff since we've drafted him and we see the same mistakes. I see the same problem with Randle. It's all talk until you actually make the adjustments. In Randle's case he tries a couple times then gives up. In Russell's case it's some of the same thing: he'll have a game or two of low turnovers, but I'm not sure he's ever been especially careful with the ball. Heck he was careless with it in the Summer League this year.

I don't see the problem with the quote.

Russell is in his second year...so he gets a small pass. What I'd like to see though is how second year players in his position compare as far as turnovers. Russell is not a true point man in the classic sense but is struggling trying to find a balance between scoring and distributing. If he does not improve on his issues by the third season, could be time to move him especially if we end up drafting Fultz or Ball. As far as his personality, Russell is too laid back which does not translate to being a leader.

Yeah I'm not desperate to move D'Angelo. He's got some great tools, it's his head that needs screwing on straight. I believe it can be done, but it'll be a process not a quick transformation. He's young enough that time can teach him to come around. If we draft Fultz or Ball though, it definitely puts a timer on him. Maybe that's a good thing? Who knows.

I think it's pretty irrelevant in today's NBA anyway.

I agree position-designations have become less important in today's NBA. As others have said, Russell just needs to find a better balance between playmaking and scoring and that splitting duties is holding him back on some level. He is young and he deserves patience on our end as he figures it out but I personally believe adding a PG next to him will benefit him. He doesn't have to entirely relinquish playmaking responsibilities because it's still beneficial to have multiple playmakers in your lineup. The elite teams have that. I think he would have a greater impact if his focus was more on scoring and he was say 22-4-4 rather than say 16-4-7.

Dlo should call up his buddy Booker, he can explain what playing at "high lvl" really means

I thought he did a very good job running the offense today. That pass to the cutter near the basket was impressive. 0 TO's. He could have had a few more assists if his teammates converted.

Dudes dropping 30pt gm left and right.....advance stats is all dlo has, booker is actually avg 21/3/3 if you want to live off dlo per36 by all means, but ill take 21/3/3 from a 20 yr old over what dlo is doing all day.....wally has nothing to do with booker, wally took 3-4yrs in the league to be that lvl. Btw booker shoots 37% from 3s, dlo can keep his advance stats

I mean Booker is a solid young prospect so I'm not going to rag on him, but I will say that he's playing 38 minutes the last two months with the ultimate green light while DAR is playing 26 in a system and dealing with an injury. I would hope Booker is having some good games, just like DAR would if he was able to have free reign and do whatever he wants.

I thought Russell played incredibly under control tonight. Some of those passes? Oh My!!! A few spectacular assists.

You can only justify the raw stats with the minutes played.....as much of a green light booker has hes still shooting 37% from 3, while dlo is shooting 34%.....both can get hot easily but at least booker has been steadily consistent from deep

I like how he's playing lately, but I wonder where his shot went?
