uhhh, that's a bit excessive. If you can't trade him, you squeeze the most out of him that you can lol
Sad thing about Moz is if he disappeared off the roster right now, the Lakers wouldn't miss a beat in the frontcourt with Zubac, Black, Randle, Nance and Thomas Robinson. If anything, they'd be better because his minutes would be going to someone else. Only way I see Moz being traded anytime soon is if the Cavs flop in the postseason and Lebron decides to wield his wand of power over the Cavs' ownership/front office to try and reassemble the 2016 title team - ignoring the fact that Moz really had little to do with them actually winning the title.
I don't want to start Zubac yet. We're looking at an incredibly small sample size in which he's excelling. He hasn't typically gone against other teams' best Centers for extended periods of time. What we've got now is a situation in which Zubac is starving to prove himself and I want to maintain that dynamic. Keep him off the bench, give him some stiffs to warm up against and then let him finish games. This has also given Mozgov new life. He had 9/9/1 in 16:34 minutes. This dynamic is working. Keep giving Zubac more minutes though. I think the rotation ideally is: Randle (30)/ Nance Jr. (18) Mozgov (15)/ Zubac (28)/ Black (5)
To be fair, I think the same could be said about any of our bigs. However, Moz will get singled out because of his lackluster play in relation to the pay.
If we're talking about wins/losses, then sure. This team is losing regardless. In terms of actual frontcourt success, the team would miss a beat if Randle disappeared given his overall production, if Nance disappeared because he has the best +/- rating on team and if Zubac disappeared because he is outplaying Moz and why this is even a discussion to begin with. Heck, losing Robinson and Black would also be somewhat impactful as the former leads the team in defensive rating and the latter is 2nd on the team in rebounds and blocks per minute - and we know how badly this team needs defense. It's not even a contract thing. Mozgov is just simply that expendable.
I don't think we lose so much with any of them that we notice a difference with what the others bring to the table. Yes, they are different, but overall impact? I just don't see it.
Zuuuu will be our best big man in the long run, we're not making the playoffs, most likely will be hoping for a top 3 pick again. Why not just unleash him with starter time, who cares about Moz, the guy is getting paid crazy money, I'm sure he's happy whether he's a starter or not. #FREEZUBLOCKA
I'll respectfully disagree. The others are either flat out better or bring things to the table that are more vital to the team (like defense), so we'd lose something without them. Not saying it'd be much but it'd be something tangible. Mozgov doesn't bring anything unique to the table that someone else doesn't already provide equal amounts of, if not more. In the end, it's a moot point. Moz isn't going anywhere.
i think i said earlier in the thread that giving people manageable assignments is good management (coaching). i agree with real that throwing a 19 year old rookie in at center against starters is...dangerous. he's doing well in the current role. let moz (with his commensurate salary) take the lumps against the top dogs for now. i mean, al jefferson ate this kid's lunch within the past week. let's pace ourselves.
I respect that. Although, sitting as the worst team in the West with about 32 or so games to go, have me waiting to me what he can do against starting lineups. Either way, I am happy with his development, and at the very least, I think he'll be replacing Moz sooner than later.
Start all the young guys and let them get beat up so they can get ready for next year. Mosgov is a giant bust. We all knew this would happen. Deng is all but done. If Mitch wants to restore some confidence in him, he needs to figure out how to send at least one them packing and not take a major hit.
