yes, of course i'd rather keep the pick (for so many reasons). i'm just not sure that drafting two spots higher means that much in this draft. hell, the knicks were deflated when they finished out of the money in the 2015 draft, and they ended up with porzingis for their trouble. in other words, all out tanking (intentionally losing) only makes sense if a) you're going to lose your pick if you don't and in a way you can control (like the lakers a couple years ago--but not like last year) or b) there's a clear superstar available at the top of the draft (anthony davis, lebron, duncan, olajuwon, ewing--consensus top picks that look poised to be a star for years to come).

yeah, i'm still concerned about both in this regard.

anyway, the larger issue to me was whether you'd move russell for a high pick in this draft. i wouldn't--probably not even number 1. this is one of those drafts where one can easily see a lower pick outperforming the top guys. which might hurt even more, given the lakers' pick protection.

I'm not suggesting tanking or trading any of our young players for a pick: I'm merely suggesting that keep our pick is the ideal option because we have an asset we can use on a team that really needs it. I know odds are slim we keep it.

You don't give up on a young player like Russell when he is 20 years old and has shown glimpses of greatness. Many more games he has shown flaws and inconsistency but you have to be patient as hard as it is for a fan base like LA.

This was also my stance. I was not advocating flipping D'Angelo for a pick. I was advocating IF we kept the pick and we get a PG, what do we do then? Does that move Russell to SG? Does it mean we can trade either the pick or D'Angelo?

Moving D'Angelo to SG would be ideal. He's a better player when he's focused on scoring imho.

Agreed but I can't get my hopes up on keeping it. Adding another young talent would be sweet but I honestly don't think we will keep the pick.

I don't think we need more undeveloped inconsistent talent.

I just see a lot of talking, not a lot of doing. If a player is not trying his hardest, then we have a serious problem.
