I think had Russell played, we would have won this game. Having Jose Calderon out there really hurt us to begin the 2nd half. There's a significant drop off from Russell to Calderon and we saw that last night. Shocked that we stayed with the Spurs until the very end though...which leads me to believe that if Dlo played, we win that game.

Interestingly, I compared him to Manu in the game thread. It was more for the chances he took with passes. I think the fact Ginobli is not Westbrook makes him a good model for D'Angelo's athleticism. The left handedness works (fellow left handed shooter myself). The more you look for comparisons, the more you see the differences in terms of Ginobli's vet demeanour. Ginobli drives more and is quicker in his style of play, while D'Angelo plays more of a cool hand, with those Andre Miller type plays.

On a lighter note. I once got compared to Ginobli in a basketball game. I like to think it was my fire, my left handedness, my attempts at a euro step, but think it may be having dark hair and the same "ahem" hairstyle as Ginobli.

manu was the better athlete (as a young player), but russell is actually far more skilled than young ginobili was, imo, both in terms of shooting and ballhandling.

i shy away from the harden and roy comparisons because those guys were/are very strong relative to sgs and used that as a big part of their games. russell is never going to have that kind of strength advantage, so he'll have to learn how to make due like ginobili did. he already does a good job moving off the ball for easy scores. i'd like to see him develop better finishing moves.

Those 2 turnovers in the 3rd turned the momentum to the Bulls.... and that ill-advised 30 footer down the stretch..... cringe-worthy game from D'Angelo.
