Hard to imagine Randle surpassing Green as a player, but he does have immense raw talent offensively. It's the defense where this doesn't ring true. Green is a monster defensively and can guard positions 1-5. Randle is good at switching on guards but he gives up with zero resistance at the rim and it drives me nuts, even though I love the guy. And his team D is still as weak as can be. Randle has a MOUNTAIN to climb defensively before even being looked at in comparison to Green. Oh yeah, and he needs to show he can knock down the outside shot consistently as well.
Draymond didn't really break out until his 3rd year; this is Julius' second year playing competitively and his first year under a competent coach. Trust me, I have been critical on Julius (I wanted to start Nance), and I don't know if he'll ever be as good or as effective as Green, but we'll see.
I understand Julius has his issues, but Draymond Green says nice things and really all it does is bring out more negativity. Ya'll aren't wrong, but the most positive person in response to Green's words has been @abeer3 who I know isn't even a fan of Julius's really. Draymond isn't wrong. Julius has all the talent in the world, but he needs to put it together. I have faith. He just seems to pick things up slower than most. Ya'll have to remember this is a kid who takes pride in taking after Kobe. He's going to learn the hard way sometimes. He's headstrong and proud and he's going to have to run into a few walls before things click. A lot of kids his age do that.
as i've said before, we really have no choice but to be patient on randle. his trade value isn't high, so he's ours until contract time. let's see how things develop. his ceiling is still high; he's just not progressing as hoped. i hate to always do this, but look at how much different russell looks after a year.
Draymond not only didn't break out till his 3rd year in the NBA, but also he was a 4 year college player. Stuff like this again, makes me confused why so many people are counting Randle out as being something special. It's just way to early to tell.
Luke said he's been very impressed with Julius, him making the right play, pushing the ball, playmaking, etc. nuff said
Far too early. My hope for Randle when we drafted him was he could become an All Star big man. Never expected him to be a franchise big man there's a difference, but can he be a 20/10 player with a good enough impact on the game to warrant being an All Star? I think he still has a chance. His playmaking has already improved, the game is slowing down for him already and making better decisions, he's still really athletic and is a tenacious rebounder. What needs to catch up for Randle is defensive awareness and the jump shot. Those are the two things I need to see more from Julius and he's only beginning his second season. Not every player grows the same. Some guys like D'Angelo show star potential their very first season and then looked poised for a breakout season the next year and some like Randle take more time. Let's just be patient and enjoy the ride.
I don't think he'll ever average 20 ppg. Russell, Clarkson and Ingram are too talented offensively for him to get that many opportunities. I think he has a much greater chance to reach Draymond type numbers, with more rebounds but less assists. Something like 15/11/5.5
Said Julius has a chance doesn't mean he'll do it just that he's capable. He's a 12-11 player already and with just some level of improvement could be 14 or 15/11 and perhaps a few years down the read 17-20 ppg and 10 or 11 boards. He has the potential and the talent. All about how much he can improve.
Yeah I know what you mean, but 20 ppg is a legitimate #2 option on any team. Perhaps he can average that many points on a scrub team with no viable #1 option but we have too many natural scorers, starting with Russell, JC, and Ingram down the line.15 ppg from Julius would still be great. And we can all agree that we want to see improvements from Julius in areas that don't show up in the stat sheet ie defensive and offensive awareness.
So our eyes have not been deceiving us... The instant he goes off the court and nance and black come in things open up and we start scoring. I still like Randle, but we have got to figure out a better way to use him, it is not working as it is now.
It's not the way or the system he simply doesn't take jumpers when he's wide open. He needs to do it and Luke needs to make him do it. If he won't, bench him. However that stat is a little harsh and misleading considering our bench is significantly better than most benches. Clarkson, Ingram, and Nance Jr. are all very, very good bench players. Our starters however are not. Spacing is certainly an issue but that's just Julius needing to take open shots. Nance Jr. to me is not a significantly greater threat, but he'll take the open shot which changes the way defenses must scheme. Julius just keeps putting his head down and driving into 3 defenders.
