Nick Van Exel did that to his eyebrows during the '90's.

Aaahhh...the flip side of the coin. Then we can have Dunn. Trade the marketing opportunities, sunny weather and a just as promising future for the cold, freezing Hinterlands. I don't know Kenz.... :)

    ^ from that article:

"Russell operates like a Tesla: His top speed is limited, but he accelerates smoothly, changes directions quickly, and no matter his pace, he has a sense of space and precision. Walton might not yet trust Russell on autopilot, but he has the potential to be a model point guard of the future.

Many of the league’s top point guards embody the qualities Russell displays in the clips above, navigating by shifting gears and using silky smooth hesitations. He scored only 0.71 points per possession (36th percentile) in the pick-and-roll, a surprisingly low number since he was at his best in the pick-and-roll in college. But that might’ve been because he lacked a rim runner like Timofey Mozgov, who scored an elite 1.22 PPP as a pick-and-roll screener, per Synergy. With Mozgov rumbling down the lane, Russell will be given a full array of options as he probes the defense."

I was very leery of D'Angelo's athleticism, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. He can move fast when he's got room to gallop, he just doesn't go 0-60 as quickly as some of the other guards. Change of speed is more important long-term than top end speed anyway. That speed eventually dies, but if you're able to craftily get to your spots you've got a game that can last into your mid-30s easily. The only place his speed comes into issue is defense, but in Summer League I saw him learning to use his length more.

I don't know if the sky is the limit with D'Angelo, but he's got the tools to be a very good player in the NBA.

We have to keep in mind that we probably haven't scratched the surface with him yet in terms of running the offense through him without Kobe on the floor, an offense like Luke's to cater to his skillset, and a team that is designed to run that offense with actual shooters, slashers, and dive men.

i'm really expecting some growth from him in terms of scoring this year. i think the facilitating is going to take another year and won't be at full strength until teams are forced to take away his scoring. hopefully, his work in the weight room will pay dividends in terms of finishing at the basket. that could really open things up for everyone.

I think his scoring abilities are fine, could improve, but not completely necessary. He really needs to tune up his ball handling and distribution. The better the chemistry and flow of the offense with him distributing, the more opportunities he'll have to score a la Steve Nash. People respected his passing so much that people just left him for layups and open jumpers, and that's where Russ will find his niche. Won't quite be the passer like Nash, but at the very least, he needs to be the one to move the ball.

I always thought very highly of him. I think Ingram and Russell will be stars down the road.

disagree on the chicken/egg thing with nash. his facilitation was...facilitated...by his incredible shooting ability (and he was an underrated finisher on those drives, too). same with stockton, and really most top notch pgs not named jason kidd or magic johnson.

tj mcconnell is a really good ball distributor, but his inability to score is what makes him only slightly better than russell instead of an all-time great.

but that's what i'm saying, Russell is already a decent scorer imo. he's an effective shooter, can take players off the dribble, and can finish handily in the lane.

his struggles come when defense's collapse on him and he's unable to make the right decisions and turns the ball over. that's why it's imperative that Russell opens up his vision more to keep defense's honest on him.

In a sense, I really wish Nash would have stayed on our development team. That would have been huge for Russell. Ah, well.

yeah, my opinion is that teams were still letting him operate in space and one-on-one a lot last year. you have to get so good that it's an absolute no-no to even think about it. that's when the passing lanes start to open. in short, if he's going to be a star, he needs to be nearly automatic in isolation and someone who requires the attention of two guys on ball screens. he's not that yet. that's what i want to start seeing this year.
