Exactly. Our roster is pretty much full. It's similar to the Nash situation. The team isn't going anywhere this year, and next year that contract might actually have some value as an expiring. Just ride it out and let him sit at home. Right now we have 12 guys not counting Nick.

Nick wanted the spotlight outside of basketball, he thought more of being in the best dressed list than being in an all-NBA. One dumb SOB

In a recent interview with Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News, Young talked about speaking with new head coach Luke Walton and sensing that his time with the Lakers might not be over:

Young added he sensed “good vibes” after talking with Walton a “couple of times” about his possible role. But does that mean the Lakers might plan on keeping Young?

“I left the conversations feeling good. But at the end of the day, I don’t know,” Young said. “We’ll see. I hear so much. You don’t know what to believe.”

Although Young believes there may still be a future in purple and gold, it still remains very much up in the air. Young, however, isn’t letting all the rumors about his status with the team distract him as he claims to be concentrating on putting in some work and seeing what happens once the dust settles, via Medina:

“I’m just going to keep working,” Young said. “We’ll see what happens.”

The main issue for Young moving forward will likely be his relationship with Russell. Obviously, Russell is an important piece to the Lakers young core and someone Walton and company hope to build around. Either Young figures out a way to get along with Russell or he may ultimately be headed elsewhere as expected.

I'd be happy if we dropped Young at this point, but I'm more enthused that even if he stays, he won't be our starter, or probably even the first player off the bench, at least by mid season.

Interesting vague tweet from D'angelo shortly after this article about Nick Young wanting to make things work between them

Nice get, sirron. That seems pretty clear DAR doesn't want him back. D'Angelo of course knows he F***** up royally (who here or anywhere would think he did it intentionally to release the files on line??) ..... and did his best at the time and for awhile going forward, prior to Nick's other "whoopsie" with ex GF being pregnant by him (again?) ..... to apologize and try best as he could to make amends for being the dumbest teenager around in the NBA .
And still apparently got no "vibe" of real forgiveness out of Nick. Yeah, he wants him gone.

Nick with his current stance of "it's all in the past and no ill will" is most likely him really, really wanting to stay in L.A.

The full title of the SI article should be "Nick Young says he can't stay mad at D'Angelo Russell because if he does he realizes he'll be renting a U-Haul very soon"

DAR has the job security here, not Nick. We were not trading the kid for that incident, regardless of what was going around. If Young couldn't get over it all this time, and this new statement just shows that he's been holding on to this spiff all this time, DAR may have just adopted a "well screw you then" attitude about it. He's done everything but prostrate himself publicly in front of Nick and beg forgiveness. And if the kid with-a-future ain't comfortable with an old scrub with a bad contract guess which one gets the walking papers? That reality has finally settled into Swaggy's thick cranium and now he's realizing he's outta here unless he patches it up.

Scary thing is him staying if you ask me. He says Luke wants to use him as a shooter? He'll shoot a little better out of Byron's system and in a GSW type of game, of that I have no doubts but what's a little better than .339?. He's .418 career, he don't board or defend. Better off to stretch and use that little bit of money to bring in youth(s) who are scrappy and hungry or some vet mins (or whatever they may need a little extra $ for next year in FA).

He should go hang out with Stephon Marbury. They are both so misunderstood.

    :dwightcrying:

And now that Nick is single, they both use Vaseline a lot.

i'm a little sad it came to this. i was one of young's bigger supporters prior to last year. i thought him signing at what was a discount was a little shot in the arm for our moribund franchise at the time. but he's just such a d******. if there's any way to package arenas with him as part of the buyout, let's do this. i can't stand that russell and clarkson got their feet wet with these dudes.
