Dude you're not understanding the concept of his contract had he signed an offer sheeti stead. I dont care bout what he signed for as i wanted him back. If he did sign another teams offer his cap hit this yr and next would've only been 6 mill ish per yr
And I don't care. Clarkson saved us 10 million dollars. This is a great deal. You have to go to be kidding me right now. We're not getting a max player anyway so who cares? We needed to lock him up as soon as possible. We did that.
I completely get what you're saying, but at the same time, with nobody wanting to sign here the extra cap space probably wouldn't have mattered anyway. Also, I'd rather have JC's contract spread out evenly than have it balloon up to 20+ mil in the last 2 years. Even if he doesn't improve much from what he is now he's well worth what he's making, but if he doesn't improve and making 20-some mil, that would have stung. This contract probably makes him more tradeable if he doesn't improve much and we want to package him with someone else to get better as well.
better to have then not too IMO....xtra 6mill next year could be alot regardless of how we failed this year thus far with FA. If we dont think we're going to trade JC in yrs 3/4, 20mill wouldn't matter by then as I would hope our team is maxed out by then and we're competitive.
Yes but what are the chances a max FA will want to sign with us next year. I'd rather have his contract spread out over the years. Instead of hitting our cap for 20+ in a couple years, it would be less and hopefully at that point our young core will progress enough where they are attractive to max talent.
JC knows he should have been a first rounder, but was fortunate going to the 2nd round and getting picked up by the Lakers, since he now gets paid big $$ earlier than Randle is. He's giving the Lakers a discount for taking a chance on him and giving him the opportunity to prove himself.
Great deal! Took a discount to stay here and didn't even listen to other teams (like Philly) and stretching this process out for us. Love his approach.
