This is a great move! It's a ton of money, but the market sets the price not us. I'm a huge fan of Deng and I'm a huge fan of this move. Luol isn't going to win us a ton of games, but that's not the point. The point is he's going to bring us some real leadership on and off the court. He's going to lead the young guys in a way we haven't had because he's still a capable player. I couldn't be happier with this.

Heck yes, excellent signing in my book. Deng is going to be a great mentor for our young guys. People can bash the contract numbers all they want, but it's going to be so refreshing to have real role players again, not just the likes of Kelly and Sacre.

    Welcome to L.A., Luol.

I don't know that we're a playoff team, but we're a lot better than when the season ended.

Coaching and young player growth will determine that, but I wouldn't think we're a playoff team yet. Way more fun to watch and a powerful foundation.

I'm inclined to say we're still a 35 win team, maybe a bit better. How much better will depend on how Luke does in his first full season and obviously how far the kids can take themselves.

Man, I love this move if he stays healthy. These young guys need a mentor, so Deng is perfect.

BTW, no Deng, no Kobe. Forum Veterans will understand this.

Looking at last seasons and next seasons roster, it appears that Kobe was finally traded for Deng.

This is a great signing for the team. Honestly, looking at the money and years on these new contracts are useless. Everyone is getting 3-4-5 year deals upwards to $50mil+. We got a solid vet that can play the 3 or 4, he can shoot, and defend decently. He's also a professional and can help not only Ingram, but the other young guys as well, and boy do we need PROFESSIONAL VETS around, unlike Nick Young.

Similar to what I said in the Mozgov thread, Deng is by all accounts a great veteran teammate. Further evidence:

Feels like when the Raiders brought back Woodson and signed Tuck. Good set of vets to lead by example.

Great signing. Exactly what the Lakers needed. A great veteran presence, a leader, who also is still a really solid NBA player. Can shoot, still an excellent perimeter defender, plays with off the ball, great cutter, and just a great guy to have in the locker room.

He can come with him. :Kobe Snickering:

I still hate Wade, but I respect him more as a player after the last few years.

Wade, why don't u come along to further strengthen your friendship? U don't really want to go to Milwaukee and if u want to show Riley how your a** tastes, there is no better way. 2-years 40 mil maybe? If u really want to screw him, 2 years for 20!

Love he signing! Veteran presence that can defend and still put the ball in the hole. Couldn't ask for a better pro to help the young guys. BTW there's this as well:

Deng after the All-Star break: 15.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.2 steals, 48 percent from the field.

Deng was always my #1 choice over Derozan, Barnes, Batum, Parsons etc.

He's not only the perfect fit to our roster, he's the perfect mentor to Ingram. Just like Ingram, Deng came into the league as a lanky 6'9 forward and developed into one of the best 2-way players. And he'll decline as Ingram flourishes. Couldn't ask for a better situation.

I just love this signing. Thanks so much Mitch!
