I think its literally the combination of confidence, confidence and more confidence. HE has the tools, to be able to use them precisely, effectively, safely, is simply another thing like a lot of other players. Were rooting for you Jeremy damn it, you have the keys, dont total the Lexus!
How is he so inconsistent? We don't need him to attack the basket every time down, but he should at least do it every once in a while. Another thing he can do is push the ball every single time like Westbrook. Scramble their defense a bit and cause mismatches. We just stroll down the court and take forever setting up our offense. Actually, Kobe ran the offense a big portion of the time, but we need Lin to help out.
played the worst out of any Lakers player the other night. Gotta be more consistent if he wants to stick around next year.
He's so inconsistent but still a very good role player.. I hope we can keep him around for cheap in the summer.. If he commands anything over role player money we're going to have to let him go.
It's looking that way. How disappointing. This was/still is his chance to make something happen in the NBA and he's blowing it. Where's the consistency? He's looking like a career backup PG now.
Sadly agreed. He really needs to step it up more consistently. I'll give him a slight pass for last night - he seems to play crappy against his former team. He played great the night before. He and Booz really have been inconsistent though. And sorry, that's not on Kobe and his shot selection - the theory proposed by that knucklehead Marcellus Wiley on the radio yesterday. That's on themselves. They just ARE inconsistent regardless of whatever Kobe does. Wes Johnson being consistently bad or non-existent hasn't helped matters for the starters. Thank goodness Swaggy P is back!
If we had Ariza in the starting lineup (or an approximation of him) I think Lin would look a little better. The spacing could help open lanes up, but nobody respects Wesley's shot. Lin seems to get down on himself really quickly. If he doesn't get a call or he doesn't make a couple shots in a row, he shrinks into his own mind and shies away. That's not going to cut it. He's too talented for that. If that's what he is though, an inconsistent guy who can't quite handle the pressure, then we might be able to keep him for cheap as a backup PG where he'd be ideal.
Lin is a fine player. He's just a little weak minded. He bends to star players. He was great when Melo was out. Melo comes back and he sort of backs off. Harden and Dwight turned him into a non-factor. Kobe is basically challenging him to man up. I think he is the same player he was in New York during Linsanity. The problem is he is NOT an alpha dog in any way shape or form, and doesn't know how to work with over the top alphas. I think Lin on a team with a players like Pau, old Odom, Noah...players with superstar talent but not superstar egos...would be excellent. I would still take Lin on a Nick Young contract.
He's got bench player written all over him. An important bench player, but a bench player nonetheless. He needs the freedom to control the ball, but on a team with other reliable offensive weapons he really shouldn't control the ball every possession. Off the bench he'd get to control the ball all he wants and he wouldn't have any pressure to put up big numbers. Just come in and have a good impact on the team. Right now he's stressing to do so much and I think it's clear he's got the talent, but not always the mentality.
Ramon Sessions got 4 million after he left here and 2 million with his new contract. Is Lin that much better than Sessions? I don't think so, both can have really good games, followed by where the hell did this guy go games. I think we can get Lin for that much. If you look at them both when they get 30 minutes a night, they put up comparable stats, they also put up comparable stinkers.
I think the marketing opportunity that Lin represents will always get him contracts above his skill level. Hope I'm wrong because I'd love to lock him in for role player money.
Lin needs the ball in his hands to be most effective, that's not gonna happen in the starting lineup with Boozer and Kobe wanting touches, especially if Lin doesn't have the confidence to wave off Kobe. He's better fit with the bench as they need someone to create the offense, something Lin excels at.
This. @Doc Brown you're right about the talent level, but Sessions won't sell as many jerseys as Jeremy Lin will. You can tack on another couple million in business revenue.
Lin isnt as bad as he looks. Our offense and player skillsets just doesn't suit him. He's a niche pg. He needs a fast, spread offense, with shooters and an open lane, pg dominated type offense. Antoni would be perfect for him as he showed in NY.
I think Lin would thrive in an uptempo ball sharing offense like the Spurs. Too many times, he passes the ball but doesn't get it back when he's wide open for a 3. He's shown enough skill that he doesn't need to be in a purely PG dominated offense like D'Antoni's. For instance, he's improved his off-ball skills to the point where he's a decent catch-and-shoot 3pter.
He has the talent for that kind of offense, but not the mentality. He's too willing to give the ball to someone else even if it's in the team's best interest to be the man with it. I think Doc made the comparison to Sessions and it's a pretty good call. Good-not-great PG that's best suited as a guy off the bench.
I don't care one bit about his offense, his defense has been atrocious.... in the Kendall Marshall kind of way.
