Yeah there's no way Vogel's job should be on the line. Heck, I hope they fire him and they hire BYRON SCOTT (used to play for Indy) and then he ticks off Paul George so much that he demands a trade....we can dream right? But in all seriousness....that Indiana roster is NOT good. They shouldn't have made the playoffs. I'll attribute that to Paul George and great coaching from Vogel. IF Vogel is fired, I would expect him to be the top candidate for all coaching vacancies...with Houston and Sacramento scratching and clawing and maybe offering $10M a year for him to come coach their squads. lol
Early rumors link him to the Knicks if Bird cans him. That would be a fantastic steal by Phil. I look at this like the Hollins fire from Memphis a couple years ago. A coach can only get so much water out of a rock. I don't know what expectations Bird had for the Pacers this year. They did good to make the playoffs.
In a recent interview, Larry said that Vogel's job depends on his meeting with the Pacer's owner. Larry said that the team needs to score more points. He didn't seem to think that was Vogel's fault as much the guys on the roster, but if Vogel is fired, it's most likely because they want to hire a more offensive-minded coach.
The way I kind of read it was that Vogel needed help making the team more capable offensively. I thought it was weird because as GM, Larry is the one in charge of shaping the roster. If there's an issue there, Larry is part of it too... I hope Vogel looks around, realizes his dream job isn't out there right now, and joins us as a defensive specialist.
That is the most toxic coaching vacancy around. Kings need to put some serious perks to their offer to attract some takers. Coach career killer Cuz is waiting to destroy whoever gets it.
Vogel fired. That's a mistake. Dude got them back to relevancy. Did a great job with a limited roster. All he had basically was PG13 and the Turner kid. Still got to the playoffs. Hell nearly got to the playoffs without PG last season. Two East Final appearances.
Everyone assumed this meant he was going to Indy, but Bird said no. So what this actually means is people are turning down the Kings job because it's such a horrible s*** show.
Working with friends and family is tough, so I don't begrudge Larry not wanting to go down that road. Coaching relationships don't last forever, but I'm sure they want their friendship to.
