Under any circumstance would you guys take Pringles back as an assistant? I hate the dude but I won't deny his genius for fast-pace three point happy basketball. I know there are better options but had to ask people's thoughts. We need some veteran presence in that staff. Other oldies who are a realistic option - Blatt, Ewing, Mark Jackson, Frank Vogel?, Mchale, Hornacek, hell even George Karl.
I wouldn't mind Pringles as an assistant but we don't need him. Luke is bringing over the Warriors motion/cutting offense from the Warriors. That will definitely be good enough once our players learn and get used to being in that system against others teams. Like others have said, we just need to sure up our defensive principles.
I would take Vogel or Blatt, and maybe McHale or Hornacek but that's it. The rest would probably turn this into a power struggle. Karl and Jackson and Ewing aren't going to make great assistants here. Ewing is looking for a HC shot. As for Pringles... I'm going to say yes as an assistant but it'd never happen. He and the Lakers will never work together again.
I'd take Pringles back as an assistant coach because I think he's a good offensive coach. He's interviewing for the Rockets job though. It'd be funny if Dwight stays and they hire him there.
It's comical that the Rockets are interviewing Pringles for their head coaching vacancy. They were horrible defensively all year and now they wanna interview a guy who doesn't give a rat's a** about defense? Harden will love him I'm sure.
if vogel gets the axe and gets hired somewhere, maybe nate mcmillan could be an option for a defensive specialist assuming he doesn't get a head coaching gig elsewhere
Here's the first few comments from the linked article above. Good stuff and there's more. Kind of like Doom. Uncle ChigurhPatrick Redford 5/04/16 9:35pm I know it’s a difficult decision, but I’ve given it a lot of thought, and I’ve decided to enter my name into consideration for coach of the Rockets. My coaching qualifications: One year I assistant coached a team of third graders which makes me particularly qualified for a team like the Rockets. We went undefeated. I also managed to not kill any of the little s***s. I make no such promises with the Rockets. 83 Reply Cristobal JuntaUncle Chigurh 5/04/16 9:38pm I’d hire you. Bring the cattle bolt pistol. 18 Reply Shakes9999Uncle Chigurh 5/04/16 9:51pm I’m sure a contextual-homicide clause could be written in to the contract. 9 Reply Uncle ChigurhShakes9999 5/04/16 9:55pm I was operating under the assumption that such a clause was boilerplate for any coach with Dwight Howard on his team. 12 Reply Pink SkullUncle Chigurh 5/04/16 9:56pm Counter offer: I will kill Dwight Howard. And that’s a promise. 23 Reply
I'd love to get Shaw back. He was highly regarded with the Pacers and their vets all loved him. I don't blame him for inheriting a bunch of entitled brats in Denver who showed zero respect.
Vogel officially out as head coach. MOVE MOVE MOVE. At least try to get him here as an assistant. He's a great coach, he would have definitely been at the top of my list for HC. Pacers are dumb.
I agree. My expectations are more for the culture change. Players all accountable, hard work but a fun place to be, players understanding the importance of defense, learning what it takes to win, how much effort you have to put out. Talk about number of wins later which will be determined by our success or lack of in FA. Just turning those things around will be a successful season. Finding the guys with the right mindset, similar to the Spurs, that are willing to work hard enough to win. Sounds simple but many players don't want to win bad enough to do the work. Exciting time for us all.
If the Lakers make the call right now, I'm sure Vogel will consider it. That being said... if he can get another HC job somewhere he might prefer that. We're about as biased as can be, so I think the Laker assistant job under Luke is better than a head coaching job in Houston but who knows? Maybe Vogel is okay with that locker room? I sure hope Mitch and Luke have called him though. If Vogel looks around and doesn't see a situation that fits him, maybe he'd be open to coming here as an assistant in the short term so that he can wait it out and find the head coaching job that he wants. edit- Larry Bird by the way is still a cold blooded SOB. In the press conference for this he said two things that must really sting Vogel: 1. Bird said he wouldn't consider McHale as a coaching candidate because he "respects him too much". So what does that mean? He respects Vogel less? Whatever coach he hires will be less respected than McHale? Ouch. 2. He told the press that Vogel was begging to stay and he fired him anyway. Why would you tell the press that?? Who does that help Larry? Cold freaking blooded.
