EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — As the Lakers contemplate whom to select with their prized No. 2 overall draft pick, meeting top prospects for get-to-know-you dinners before putting them through the predictable on-court workouts to gauge their skills, allow us to recall what longtime Lakers owner Jerry Buss used to say.
When you're throwing around big words such as future cornerstone and franchise player, character counts.
The Lakers dined with Jahlil Okafor on Monday night, and he might well be their pick over guards D'Angelo Russell and Emmanuel Mudiay, who already broke bread with Lakers officials and later went through drills and workouts, as Okafor will Tuesday morning.
If the Minnesota Timberwolves opt for the all-around, modern-game talents of center Karl-Anthony Towns with the top pick, it would be shocking for the Lakers to pass up the most complete...
Here's my latest on the Lakers and potential #2 pick Jahlil Okafor, who many fans (though not as many here at LB) seem to be overlooking due to the Towns hype.
The NBA Draft is quickly approaching and two big men currently sit atop nearly every draft board: Karl-Anthony Towns and Jahlil Okafor. The two battled it out for draft position for much of the college season, with Okafor leading the way early and Towns coming on strong late. Fortunately, in the midst of all the turmoil there were a few bright spots, a few energizing players who kept fans tuning in and hoping to see something positive on the court. One such player was...
So, before we start the draft and free agency, let's play a little game. Everyone puts down the 12 man roster they think will open for the Lakers. If you want to write a quick one or two sentences as to why, that's fine. But NO editing the lineup after June 20th. Then when the dust settles in a couple months we can look back to see who was closest.
This is not what you want or your "dream" lineup. This is not to discuss free agents or draft picks. This is what you think will actually be the 12-man roster come October.
