Would It Be More Merciful To Trade Kobe Bryant?

While I just came back in to Lakers Ball after the gut wrenching blow last night of Julius Randle suffering a major injury on Opening Night in front of his mom no less, this is the very first thread I see and have to say I understand where the OP is coming from. Karma-wise as possibly (I say he is) the greatest Laker ever.....this is BRUTAL. Kobe does not deserve this in that sense.

Now I will go and read other comments, while also chiming in that I hope Kobe can make peace with himself and understand that if ring #6 is impossible as a Laker, to go and chase it elsewhere would not be as great on his lasting honest legacy of this team, even if wining #6, as staying here now and doing his very best with all the new guys, especially Julius now that needs his powerful "been there done that" mental guidance. This is bigger than Kobe now and I expect him to rise to the occasion.

Considering the guts spilled and obstacles overcome by Bryant for this franchise ....yeah he deserved better at the end of his career. However there is still NEXT YEAR. I mean that. Who knows.....legitimately and "honestly" we suck so hard, that we keep our 1-5 lottery pick away from Phoenix, no tanking involved, to add to the nice young guy roster we are already building, Houston's first round pick and Julius "the beast" Randle coming back with Kobe in his ear the whole time. I think Kobe is genuinely moved by this and will do everything in his power to help him overcome this "bump" in the road.

In the mean time while teaching all these guys all the things that "winners and skillful players should aspire to" .... EFF it.....always play to win Kobe but while you are at it, chase yourself as much HISTORY as possible. 1st up on list.... pass Michael freaking Jordan on all time scoring list. Next up whatever else the hell you have in your tank.

 

This actually hurt my soul to read. I made it through all the post on the thread and was like eh its Lakers fans we do this all the time but then I saw this.... Really?

 

Speechless. I saw puffy's comment and swear to god did not even read the attachment.... just understood whatever it is he was saying with regards to a trade scenario for Kobe Bryant. For like ten minutes I did not even bother to actually click on the attachment. Then I did. I agree with Puffy. Think about it folks. How blessed we have been, following Magic Johnson, as professional basketball fans, to have had Kobe Bryant come to the Lakers and put up an 18 years and counting career .....for the ages.

It was sadly kind of a bait and switch...or not well thought out question.

He deserves "mercy" from this fate.... BUT to do that trade???? I don't want to even bang on the OP, rather just have people honestly consider what we have been blessed with basketball wise, and still have on the Lakers' roster. Seriously.....no Kobe jock sniffing involved here.

 

When you have a GREAT franchise. You do the trade. For legacy, of both parties.

 

NO. The great franchises are only great because of the GREAT players that have been on the team and won championships and performed in legendary fashion.

 

Kobe retires a Laker and that is the way it should be.

 

One game into the season and here comes the " lets trade off a top 2 (easily arguable @ #1 too) Laker of all time" never mind that he has a no-trade clause and no desire to go anywhere.

 

I'm torn on this one. I could see a scenario where the Lakers would approve a trade, but that ain't it.

He should have retired , it would have been good both for him AND especially for our franchise on the B-Ball side ... but our organization needs a star to make money and please TWC ...

I don't blame Kobe , what made him his great is now his weakness : thinking is still the best player in the league and still can lead a team to a title ... now he plays with D Leaguers

 

Unfortunately, it's going to be hard to find a scenario that pleases all parties.

 

^ no one should even entertain such an idea. There are things you just DONT DO, trading Kobe is one of them.

 

his trade value is low, and his symbolic value is high to the lakers. simply not happening. and I agree with weezy, I don't think he deserves deliverance from the current mess. it's not all his fault as espn stupidly asserted, but it's not none of his fault.
