I believe the 5-1 to end the season was a nice offering to the basketball gods, as oppose to losing 15 straight like the Suns.

There's a dark part of me that wants us to lose the pick so I can log-in here and read 56 posts about, "SEE THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T LET TYLER ENNIS WIN GAMES!"

maybe this is for the optimism thread, but i really think we need to start a list of reasons why losing the pick isn't the end of the world--it could save some lives. i'll start:

    1. no obvious superstar talent in the draft
    2. teams will automatically ask for it in trade talks, in addition to young players--could lead to overpay
    3. there's not much room to develop more players, nor is there time (if you want to stop losing in the next couple of years)
    4. no chance you'll have to spend time rationalizing lavar ball's behavior in order to preserve attitude congruency
    5. will have a year of not dealing with unrealistic expectations (and subsequent message board meltdowns) that come with a top 3 pick. nobody is expecting anything of the 27th pick!
    6...

Reason 2 is a catch 22, they wont ask for the pick but they will ask for 1 more of the young guys, one that we dont want to give up

Both takes are fair. I think the defensive issues look fixable. He has poor footwork which can be taught (reminds me a bit of Clarkson actually). I think effort is mostly there on that end.

I think he's the type of kid that'll excel at what he's good at in the NBA (transition and encouraging ball/man movement), but his weaknesses will also be obvious. I think the Lakers are an ideal fit because he can slide next to Russell and the two of them can take pressure off each other.
