Well we as europeans should have a small advantage in terms of pronunciation compared to our american friends. But we did have some of those names before with the likes of Medvedenko, Radmanovic, Vujacic so we'll get used to it.

You could simply spell it Mihalyuk. Easy to pronounce.

Yeah. His short name is certainly Slava. In fact all of these are Slava more often than not:

    Stanislav
    Svyatoslav
    Rostislav
    Vyacheslav
    Vladislav

    Slavic people, you know....

BTW, his name in a very rough translation means "one who praises the Lord/saint"

Is it unique that he responds to "Svee"?

He will be versatile for us just like Slava. He can, depending on the score, be our human victory cigar or our white flag. Slava actually excelled at both.

Just hope he doesn't pass out on the elevator lol.

Yes. But it is easy to pronounce. BTW, svee ("svi") means "all" in Serbian/Croatian.

I almost got emotional reading this. Good Read that captures what his family has meant to him and a little of his upbringing.

Good comparison, but I'd argue that Slava is a better defender slightly.

I am not calling him Slava, that conjures up horrible memories of the 2004 Finals. I’ll call him almost anything else. Svi is fine with me, though I was into calling him Mick.

How Svi Mykhailiuk Fits With the Lakers:

    1) Shooting (obviously). Svi is an excellent shooter, one of the best in this draft. In his four year career at Kansas, he shot 40.9% from deep. As a senior he shot an astonishing 44.4% from outside. His volume increased each season too, so it's not like it's a small sample size. This young man can shoot. Kansas (especially early on) liked using him in the corners to space the floor in pick and roll situations.

    2) Feel for the Game, Solid Passing. You'd never confuse Mykhailiuk for a point guard at the college level and certainly not as a pro, but he understands where the ball should be more often than not. He does a good job of finding the pass that should be made and is actually a pretty good passer in the open floor and can send a good post entry as well. Watch this post entry.

Then this fast break where Mykhailiuk fills his lane responsibility right away then finds the right pass at the right time.

Then watch here as he fakes the slip screen and drives himself, then in the same game recognizes the slip and hits him this time.

    3) Decent Enough Athleticism, Runs the Floor. One of the most important tenets of our system is to run the floor and get easy looks. Svi can do that just fine. He's not lightning fast or quick, but he'll run hard when the opportunity presents itself either to the rim or as a trailer for three. A lot will be made about his lack of athleticism, but he's not incapable of defense, he's just not going to be a lock down guy. He's also able to get up just fine in space.

All in all Svi probably doesn't have the highest ceiling, but he's a solid player. He needs coaching on some of the detail work. I think he could be better at dropping to the level of the ball and keeping passing lanes open. He could be better reading defenses although he improved his senior year. He did a much better job attacking closeouts as a senior, but there's a lot of work on that front as well. When it comes down to it though, he's going to give us spacing and limited mistakes and that's all you can ask for that late in the draft. I'm not sure he's going to be a contributor right away, but he's got definite role player potential if he comes in and works hard. He literally just turned 21 years old 12 days before the draft so he's got room to improve.
