Acquiring George is not all roses, especially for Ingram. They both play the same position. But yeah, if he wants to sign we'd be stupid not to I guess. He'd be a highly valuable trade asset at worst.
I actually get what @tada is saying. If BI develops we have an issue with PG, signed for like 200mil.
Sure but PG or Ingram can play the 2, 3, or 4 (Yes, I know PG13 doesn't like to play the 4) but you get the point. They are 2 way basketball players (ingram developing into that) and I don't think its really an issue having them on the court at the same time.
Ingram in no one precludes getting George and even if Ingram develops into Kawhi Leonard and George costs 200 dollars, I'd like to have Kawhi Leonard and Paul George on the same team. There's no reason to not want George just because you have someone who might maybe one day be as good as George.
I get both your points, but if Ingram is our future, we'd want him to develop in the ideal situation, ie trading Eddie Jones was undoubtedly the right decision for the development of Kobe.
To hammer home my point about Amick... Here is the same article he wrote about Paul George saving the Lakers while Paul George is on the Pacers right now... If you think it's a coincidence too that yesterday a story leaked from Windhorst about the Hawks offering four first rounders, you're crazy. Windhorst was told to post that as a way to try to tell the Lakers they need to offer up some big assets for George if they want to trade for him. At this stage, I'm predicting a standoff for a while unless George openly demands a trade to LA, but I don't see that happening. Personally, I call the Lakers and tell them they can take him for Clarkson and some picks. If I'm Indy, I want no part of this circus and I need to get back to helping my franchise. Right now this is a mess and a distraction. I get out from it asap because the writing is on the wall and I'm not going to get a good return for George at this point.
Certainly can isn't certainly will. And if he's otherwise locked up, you can't. I don't see any of the assets I'd move as being worth more for us than George. I actually made it super clear.
I'll take my chances. I'm not passing on Paul George for a kid we don't know will pan out. That doesn't make any sense.
Paul George controls this ENTIRE situation. If George wants to be a Laker and win titles, he sends an emissary to Magic and says, hang tight, I'll be there in 12 months. DONE. No more wondering and figuring out.
The Warriors model is what Luke is trying to emulate. You might have Draymond, Durant, Iguodala, Klay and Livingston at the same time. They are all somewhat interchangeable. No one is hindering anyone. They are versatile multi-position players. PG and BI on the court together is only desireable.
I'll never view trading Eddie as the right move. He and Kobe were a perfect backcourt pair for the Triangle. Kobe was the default initiator, not Fish. I get why they did it. They wanted another 3 point shooter and got that in Rice, but we lost on the defensive end and several more good years of Eddie after Rice was done.
I also think Ingram's personality allows for this. Even when he's matured I think he will be okay being the 3rd or even 4th option in he team.
It's really simple. While he's working out with Kobe at Kobe's house he just tells him. I mean he has Kobe going forward for as long as he wants to keep picking his brain and training with him if he comes to the Lakers and is living in L.A.
