Moreso than certain developing players, I think the spotlight should be on Luke this season. He has to get more out of this team than is expected to show he can really coach.

We've had like 4 practices. Half the team is gone. All players have new roles. We need to give Luke at least a few months before asking for his head.

It'll take me a long while before I'm ready to fire Luke, if for no other reason than I'm sick of the coaching carousel (and there's no obvious replacement available).

I will however begin to be more critical of him when he screws up. He's a young coach, so things will happen that he'll have control over. So far, I don't think he's done these guys any favors by ignoring half-court offense.

Come on. You've been around here a minute, you know how we do. One game and it's off with their heads. That's tradition.

It's fine if people feel that way after all this is a forum for all and people are allowed to voice their opinion. But people that rationalize that and really do think it should be off with his head its just dumbfounding to me how you one could react like that so fast.

You are right, some of us have been around for a while and should know this is happening but its damn confusing sometimes..

People who question Luke.... Do you think he doesn't understand half-court offense? The man was a triangle wizard, he knows.

I think Lopez and Bogut absence played into the offense not being executed.

I don’t think anyone is saying off with his head already. I said he should get more scrutiny to see what he can do, and if he would even be able to handle the acquisition of two top free agents.

Luke has gotten a lot of love, no problem, but Byron got all of the “former Laker turned coach” benefit of the doubt energy. I have none left to apply to Luke when things start looking bad.

I'm not saying he doesn't understand it, I'm saying he needs to implement it. Right now we're running simple sets from last year. I know the shortened pre-season has affected what he's been able to teach, but he's given very little attention to the half-court offense and it's showing.

    I didn't mean you specifically.

My line of thinking is that this kind of thing is akin to project management. Sometimes things take priority over other things, despite visible issues with the latter that need addressing.

There is only so much practice time within the already shortened training camp.

Hopefully they will have time as we move along. Regardless, I've seen some improvements in things we do know they worked on, namely defense.

Wasn't nearly enough, but I'll take what I can.

I hear you. I just don't think the defense has improved dramatically enough to have zero offense installed. I think a few sets should have been installed at least so that the defensive drills had something to run against.

Although to be fair, the players may just be really bad at executing right now.
