I wouldn’t read too much into this. I’m canadian, and there’s a housing boom in Toronto.... so much so that the federal government is trying to make legislation to discourage foreign investors from buying real estate in Toronto and Vancouver specifically.

This is just a smart financial decision for Kahwi. He will park his money in his home for the year (not wasting it on rent that he will never get back), and when he sells there’s a good chance he will make profit as well.

I have always been worried about the Clippers mainly because they will have 70 mil in cap space and Jerry West. They will want to be relevant by the time their new arena opens up in a few years.

My concern has always been that at the trade deadline the Clippers will offer the Raptors anything they want. Something like Tobias (young expiring)+Shai Gilgeaus-Alexander (top Canadian point guard prospect) + future picks for Kawhi.

If the lakers say “we won’t match, we will wait till the offseason”... it’s exacty what the Clippers want. Then they will have the most appeal to Kawhi with the pitch of “We have your bird rights now, we can offer you the most money, you get your wish to stay in LA, you will be the undisputed face of the franchise.... plus we have cap space for potentially 2 other max players (if they can salary dump Gallinari). Just name the two other free agents you want and we will build around YOU Kawhi.”

Always been cautious about the Clippers being a Kawhi destination. It gives him LA which his camp wants without all the lights and cameras like the Lakers, it'll fit his personality more. They have a lot of money next season to spend and Jerry West to help spend it. Tobias Harris is one hell of a trading asset considering his talent and salary numbers.
