totally agree. I noticed him giving plenty of effort and even showing some defensive instincts (breaking up that lob to Gobert leading to an And-1), but Gobert is just so long that Randle couldn't fully contain him. In a regular season game I'd expect Lopez to return a bit sooner, so I'm not worrying about it too much. Randle's game and demeanor has truly reminded me of LO the last 2 games.

Randle looked great I thought after the 1st quarter. Came into the game a little sloppy but recovered after that. And I don't think its his fault for having difficulties keeping Goebert off the glass in the 4th quarter.

Well if that's the case and they can do it to Randle then why the hell not for this last pre-season game do it to BI as well and have him come off the bench to see what it looks like. Just as an experiment for future reference. So they can see what starting Kuzma at the 3 looks like. Next to either Nance or Randle and Lopez with KCP and whomever at the point. He's earned that look and would not typically get out muscled there. More offense at start of the game. Last game to try it ....Luke.

I can understand IF Nance was earning his starting role, but its not even close.

Odom did it and I think Odom was a better ball player than Julius.

Not to mention, if he accepts a bench role now it would bode well for him in the future if/when we land a big FA so he could stick around as a contributor without getting held up on who starts and who doesn't.

You can see some growth in Randle, but hes been in the league long enough to know that he just plays to fast. A bit sloppy still.
He's frustrating to watch at times because he has a great skill set and hasn't really figured it out yet. I know hes young still,
so Im hoping he puts it together.

Randle should start over Nance... I don't know if Walton is trying to light a fire under him by bringing him off the pine but he has a more overall dynamic game than the latter. Nance is beginning to remind me of Josh McRoberts.

Concerned about that hip or back tweak he sustained. Hopefully it's just a pulled muscle or strain.

Used to love CL nickname "McBob". Guess McRandle would work.

:Kareemlook: I'm confused, he said Nance was like McBob, then you proceeded to give Julius the moniker

Nance was pretty transparent at the end of the game: Luke is looking for the player that will complement Lopez. That means letting Lopez have the ball and work down low and someone willing to do the dirty work, get rebounds, and defend. Which player sounds more like that? Nance or Randle?

I think Julius is definitely more talented than Nance, but is he as good a fit with Lopez? To start a game, maybe not. I think the Lakers are going to lean on Lopez hard in the half-court so the PF next to him has to be willing to get out of the way and let Brook work. Randle wants the ball in his hands.

I'm starting to come to terms with it and I think with Ball in the starting lineup, things will work smoother.

    Ball/Caruso
    KCP/Clarkson
    Ingram/Kuzma
    Nance/Randle
    Lopez/Bogut

With Brewer replacing Bogut when the opposing team doesn't have size.

Yeah. You have a problem with that? It was late and was on my phone between nods. Followed up the time shifted game with 1.5 hours in the Youtube wormhole with the projector. The content just keeps getting better.

But have it your way .... McNance probably works even better .... eh?

I don't see it working out. Nance just brings nothing to the table on offense game after game. I don't see Nance as a good fit with Ball since he can't or won't shoot at all. Granted, Randle isn't a shooter either but he's just a better, more talented player who should be starting.

i said this in the nance thread, but i agree that he's a better fit next to lopez right now. that said, i don't think randle got enough of a chance to demonstrate his fit with lopez.

i agree with real's 10-man rotation right now. the minutes distribution might be a bit tricky:

ball (30)/caruso or ennis (12)/clarkson (6)--i might steal some minutes at 1 for jc, paired with ingram or randle as facilitators
    kcp (28)/clarkson (20)
    ingram (30)/kuzma (18)
    nance (18)/ randle (30)
    lopez (30)/bogut (12)/nance (6)

that has kuzma only getting 18mpg, but...where are those other minutes coming from? who's sitting? i suppose you can steal a few each at the 4 from nance and randle, but i highly doubt they plan on scaling ingram's minutes back.

something's gotta give. of course, injuries usually "solve" these problems, i guess.

nance can finish lobs and tries to set screens. much higher iq on both ends. the supposed benefit to a player like ball is that guys don't have to have special iso skills to become threats.

I honestly don't see us scoring enough and digging a hole in the 1st quarter with Nance starting. It's bad enough that Ingram's looking more like a 12ppg scorer rather than a 20ppg scorer. Replace Randle with Nance and we lose another 10ppg.

He’s been really good off the bench though. If Nance goes to the bench, they get worse, don’t forget that. I think Randle has earned the right to start the way he finished preseason for sure, but at the same time, if he’s being a major factor off the bench, and finishing games, does it matter if he starts? Real mentioned Odom coming off the bench, and that’s a good example, he was great for us in that role.
