Yep, Bron and PG would have to take a trivial haircut off their respective max deals to fit Jules into the equation.

Deng stretched, Jules cap hold, Zo, BI, Kuz & Hart + 5.8M incomplete roster charge (due to 7 open roster spots) = about 41M in team salary and 60M in cap space.

So based off cap semantics, Bron and PG woukd have to each shave roughly 2-3M off their respective max deals.

However, you can easily bypass this trivial account in the form of performance driven incentives written into their contracts (for example, must play a min of 60 games for the season to receive said bonus, etc.) that will for sure give them their true max amounts by season's end.

Not at the time of signing the contracts. Remember, cap is all projected till season's end and that is when taxes are calculated.

Since Embiid received performance incentives, his cap number increased and as a result from the time he signed the deal, the Sixers taxes will refect the change.

I'm not completely sure that this can be done in year 1 of a contract, but I'll try to hunt something down in Coon's CBA later today that can corroborate this.

So I stand corrected...they have to be considered "unlikely" by a NBA panel...of course we can debate that Bron (being the NBAPA VP) has major pull to sway a NBA panel's opinion to be in his favor. Silver has to know LA back in contention is only better for his NBA product. I'm thinking when Magic and Rob visited Silver at NBA headquarters to review the CBA, many topics must have been breached to figure out just how much leeway they would get.

Maybe an unlikely incentive for Bron is All-NBA defensive team. And for PG, starting lineup for the all-star game.

I'm really surprised by your eagerness to see DeAndre on our team as a possibility. All the negatives far out weigh this particular benefit that your taking about. When Jordan isn't doing this he's just clogging up the paints, struggling on switches on defense, and missing free throws. All that for a high price tag that we'd have to pay him. No way I go that route. Might as well go with a player like Capela if your going that route.

Heck, I'd go with Brook Lopez who I think would be perfect with our room exception with Lebron, PG, & Randle. Good floor spacer and can defend in the paint. Also catch lobs. The margin of Jordan doing lobs better than Lopez and defending the rim is way too small to go with Jordan instead.

What the heck is this incomplete roster charge of $5.8M? I've never heard of this before...

So I guess the only way is to actually dump Deng.....and technically if we do that...wouldn't we have about $15M to play with if we retain Randle's bird rights? Meaning we can spend $15M on other FA's and then sign Randle over the cap?

roster charge is a designated min requirement for any roster spot left open that isnt signed to a contract....i.e. you gave 15 roster spots, but inly 10 players are signed, 5 of those spots need a min salary added back into the current cap...n no to randle question, randle has a $12mill cap hild if we dont relinguish his rights, that counts towards cap

Incomplete roster charges are capholds for players that will count towards making up a complete roster. So each team has to account for about 825K (rookie min amount) per available roster spot, up to 12 spots.

If we stretch Deng and waive the non-guaranteed contracts of Ennis, Zu and TB, then LA only has Jules (cap hold), Zo, BI, Kuz and Hart on the roster. We have 7 open roster spots, hence each roster spot will account for a 825K cap hold (ie incomplete roster charge).

As you fill up the roster, the incomplete roster charge gets recalculated. Also consider that vet mins are exceptions, so they are used to add to the roster even if you take up all your cap space (ie which is why its called an exception in the first place). So I wouldn't call the incomplete roster charge a major deterrent to adding Bron/PG at near max money....especially if you consider just how trivial that amount is.

LA would have 65M in practical cap space if we stretched out Deng, waived our non-guarantees and held onto Jules. You can technically call that max slots for Bron and PG, but they would have to shave a trivial amount off the top if they are looking for their "true" max number.

DJ is so much better than Lopez. His rebounding alone makes him Uber valuable in comparison. DJ is not elite on switches but he is for sure better than SlowFoot Lopez. The floor spacing thing is overrated when Lopez is hitting 3s at only 30%. DJ makes up for it with elite P & R skills and floor running. The only true negative is the free throw issue.

Basically this. Well said TIME. I'm no huge Jordan fan, but he provides the kind of vertical spacing that'd open the floor wildly for a Ball/George/Ingram/LeBron team. George and Ingram are both 40% three point shooters. Ball showed flashes of shooting ability (and his college career shows far more success) and LeBron has become a respectable shooter as well.

Then when you go small, you put Kyle Kuzma in there who can space the floor and rebound/push the ball? That team can compete with anybody.

Or Thomas Bryant at 5 off the bench with Kuz at 4. I really think Bryant is the perfect bench 5 for this team and is gonna surprise us all this year.

I meant as a death lineup.

I really, really like the Lonzo/George/Ingram/LeBron/Randle death lineup.

I also really, really love the Lonzo/George/Ingram/Kuzma/LeBron death lineup as well.

As for regular rotations, you could definitely run with Hart/Kuzma/Bryant hopefully off the bench along with maybe our #25 pick or whoever we spend our Room Exception on.

This is why it would be most ideal to still have Randle around plus for the toughness and pain he afflicts on opposing teams every night .... and still be able to swing keeping Lopez. My god what flexibility that roster would have.

i really don't think dj will be of any use when trying to beat gsw....they have effectively killed all these elite bigs in the playoffs, from capela to gobert, hell even adams who has some decent post gm cant take advantage of the matchup against green, i know ad had decent #s against gsw this past playoffs but he too struggled against green

Capela had Har'en and a one footed Cp3 in front of him and took those guys to 7 games and a 3-2 lead. Gobert didn't face the Dubs in the playoffs, but give him something other than Rubio and a rookie. Give AD some stars in front of him to take on the dubs in the postseason. If you give a legit rim protector, Bron and Pg on the perimeter... I'm sorry, the Dubs never seen that before.

Bring the big man and defense back! Why are we trying to play the dubs game. Make it uncomfortable and make them play ours. I know Luke is a dubs import, but he wants a defensive big man...from Mosgov to Bogut to encouraging 8% to step up. Give Luke that resource with Bron, PG and either Zo or BI on the perimeter and make the Dubs try to match up to us!
