Zuuuuuu is beasting for the national team! People are cruel here...this is the same dude that was crying for being a Laker...that was hoping he drops in the draft to get picked by LA. Thats exactly the type of guy I want on this team, with the Lakers pride and a chip on their shoulder. Also Zu has given me every reason to believe he works his butt off. If I can keep him for a minimum contract, I can't think of a better 15th guy on this roster. Honestly, nobody.
My expectations for Zu have dropped significantly, but as KB mentioned, we could do A LOT worse for a 14th or 15th spot on the roster
Cruel? Did you not watch him play this last year? He was getting rejected by everything and everyone.
Yeah no. https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/z/zubaciv01/gamelog/2018/ He had two good games in Feb and maybe two or three good games at the end in April. Definitely not a flash, he looked a lot better his rookie season.
I remember it was a small sample size but was like 4-5 game stretch. In that stretch made like 13-15 shots without missing. Like I said just a lil flashing, nothing serious .
He really does. To scrutinize Zu doesn’t mean to hate him. I like the kid, I wish he’d have made progress last season. Every rookie we drafted came in ready to go and contribute/make a difference almost immediately. Maybe you exclude T Bryant from that list, but it wasn’t for lack of effort, he was raw, and by the later part of the season he was tearing up the G-League at least. Ingram came in better, Randle became a beast as the season went on, even JC upped all his averages. Even Caruso and Wear came in and contributed. Zu came in out of shape, slow, and generally looked completely lost. Zublocka was gone, and he forgot how to even use a pump fake at the rim, getting his shots sent back regularly. There was no excuse for that level of falling behind everyone else.
I saw him in person in Summer League last year. After his strong rookie season I expected him to show strong. I was shocked at how slow, uncoordinated and unenergetic he looked. He did finally recover a bit late in the year, but this was a wasted year for Zu. Big men tend to develop slowly, so he still has time to make his mark. However, with Moe, and the development of Thomas Bryant, I hope Zu develops on the Spurs where he belongs.
Thomas Bryant looked like dump when he played in the NBA. He couldn't translate anything from the G League to the A League. Zubac is a full second slower than he needs to be. I do not know if he can make up that second. Some players are just not physically able to be NBA players. It's no knock on either one but that's life. Besides, Lakers hit on 3 out 4 in one draft, I'd say we did well last year.
