Would It Be More Merciful To Trade Kobe Bryant?

    I think so.

Surely after seeing him in action, someone might unload a couple of players and draft picks our way. It's going to be tough to ask Bryant to shoulder the burden you see going on right now vs not competing for a championship.

This is basketball purgatory for Bryant, with no hope for help.

If he asked, wouldn't you do it for him? I would.

I wouldn't want to because he's the meal ticket and ticket seller, but a HOF'er shouldn't go out like this.

Pretty sure Kobe would waive it.

Maybe not. Maybe he wants to stay in SoCal with the wife and kids and just grin and bear it. Sounds like Chinese torture.

If he asked, yes I'd trade him. He won't ask though.

Besides, nobody is willing or able to take on a contract like his.

I'm sure that some nice team out there would be willing to unload virtually their entire young athletic squad to work out a trade for Kobe's 30 million dollar contract. Maybe the Pelicans can give us AD, Ryan Anderson and 4-5 other guys.

Here's a quick sample using very little imagination

    trade.png

Have NY throw in draft picks. Why not? Both guys are expiring, and Shumpert has potential. Kobe goes to the triangle and plays in the Big Apple..... We improve our draft position.

I would at least entertain offers if I'm the Lakers. Not that the KNicks are going to be a playoff team who knows, but I would consider options for Kobe out of respect.

Wow. That's awful. Sorry, but that really is insulting to maybe the greatest Laker of all time.

    Just terrible.

If you're going to say something like that, you should come up with a more realistic trade proposal.

You're trading away someone who brings massive amount of viewers and a freaking legend for 2 expiring contracts?

Merciful? In my opinion, Yes, and for both parties.

Lakers need to be bad enough to secure the top 5 pick and avoid paying pheonix.

Kobe is not winning a title here in all likelihood. So why not ship him out to help someone win a championship. And it will get us into recovery in a faster time period.

It's super unlikely we find a taker at his dollar amount. But I wouldn't be opposed to it. Kobe owes us nothing else.
