This got me thinking... Are people not aware of rugby?

It's brutal. And jockstrap is all the protection those guys wear.

To assume anyone at the Olympics isn’t top notch talent is pretty silly.

unless you were that hit man in the shooting competition

I don't understand the point you're making. Why would NFL players play rugby instead of flag football?

I think he's addressing this silly post:

Basically assuming other countries don't have adequate athletes that could play flag football and would resort to an elementary teacher. If a country has rugby (for example), they could easily adapt their skillset to flag football.

so basically 'Mercans are myopic and think we are the only ones with football talent.

That makes sense, but they'd be playing rugby if they're the best rugby players.

The point I was making is -- if there is a flag footbal in the olympics, US people in the thread above laugh since they think there will be NFL players agains teachers and milkmen from Estonia.

Which is ridiculous, since if there is flag football, other countries have enough athletes, for example from rugby, that would prove more than enough challenge.

I am pretty sure there is more from where this comes from, to suffice for both rugby and flag football:

I doubt flag football attracts the best athletes in the US either. Too much at stake for high priced pro athletes for a prestigious sport like flag football.

I thought Zen posted it to show how silly and soft Los Angeles was for introducing such a “p***y” sport  without all the required tackle football gear when there’s a manly version already in existence in rugby.

what would the original Olympians think? Men fighting women, synchronized swimming, ball room dancing, and now a child's game?

Most of the new stuff I can't get behind, but the wall climb stuff is a bit absurd. Those winners are real life spidermen.

The Algerian fighter would certainly be classed as a woman in the ancient world. They didn't know about test levels and chromosomes.
Many women couldn't attend or compete in the Olympics. Women probably couldn't watch men; we're not sure whether men could watch women.
The Games included ritual slaughter of animals in the name of pagan gods.
So far as we can tell, the first Olympics had only one event - a race.
They were carried out almost exclusively in the nude.
They eventually include musical contests, high levels of cheating (especially in Roman times), but the prizes were way cooler.

In brief, it's hard to say what the original Olympians would think, but I can't see that it matters much. The modern Olympics are much different.

I think some of it looks incredible, but I'm mostly not interested in the Olympics.

For some reason I have lost complete interest in watching pretty much any of it. I guess either I’m just too busy on other stuff that interests me more or they suck. Assume it's just me.
