Cool. Congrats Steve on a great career. Unfortunately, it just didn't work out with the Lakers. Now, would you like to be hired as a player development coach with us?

Thank You Steve! You were a pleasure to watch throughout your career, whether it was with the Mavs, Suns, or when you came to my beloved Lakers. The unselfishness you displayed while always putting the team first was a breathe of fresh air to witness while growing up and falling in love with the game of basketball. When I have kids someday and they ask me who was one of my favorite players to watch you'll definitely be one of them. Enjoy retirement, and be at peace. You deserve it!

I haven't read Nash's letter yet, but I can say that I respected Nash's career and what he accomplished. However his time with the Lakers was a disaster, and part of the blame certainly falls on him. He had an opportunity to retire medically last spring and give the Lakers more cap space to play with last summer but he opted not to. It was his decision and he had the right to make it but it was one that would clearly hurt the franchise.

I appreciate and respect what he did throughout his career. He was fun to watch, entertaining, funny, and did some impressive feats with a bad back. Then he signed with the Lakers. In that regard, I say

For me, the Nash experiment was the opposite of the Malone signing. I hated pre Lakers Malone. But quickly became a big fan of what he brought. Hard work, 110% every night, ultimate warrior through all the BS that season. I enjoyed pre Lakers Nash (undeserving of MVPs, but not his fault). Then he came here and that took a hit. He couldn't make it on the court and has not done enough to compensate for that in terms of mentoring, in my opinion.

I never fully felt like he felt he was part of this organization in his heart. I don't know what it was, but it was there.

Glad he's retiring and I hope he would consider working as a shooting coach, or some kind of player development coach, although I bet he and the Suns want a reunion on that front.

Ex-Laker Steve Nash. That sounds good.

One of my favorite players and least favorite Lakers. I can understand him not wanting to quit when he might have some more left. You're always the last to know. But what an ugly footnote as an addendum to his career.

He revealed a lot about his character by continuing to take our money while he stayed retired. Yes I know the Lakers asked him to delay his retirement as another asset they may be able to trade. Even so to take that much money from an organization and giving them almost nothing in return... it's not the right thing to do.

Hopefully he can help bring in a free agent or two this summer and that will be his legacy moving forward. Even a good person can mess up and I'll never begrudge him for getting hurt or for taking his contract with the Lakers.

Good luck in retirement. Feel free to join the staff and help in some way as we strive to move on from your era of Laker basketball.

I respect his career, but I have to say I liked him more when he wasn't a Laker. Oh well. I'd still hire him as a shooting and PG coach. His knowledge of the game is astounding.

    65 games, 11.4 points, 6.4 assists, 2.6 rebounds, 0.7 steals in 29.8 per game

    30-35 regular season
    0-2 playoffs

I don't dislike Nash. I was pretty excited when we signed him, and if he had been healthy, Kobe had been healthy, and Dwight had been healthy, we would've been in an interesting veteran rebuild. Didn't happen, and I won't blame it all on him. That's over the top.

Best of luck to you, Steve. You're still young, you're immensely talented in ways off the court, you have a family that loves you, and I'm sure you'll do some things you enjoy and make a difference.

I'll never forget him running circles around the Lakers. Steve Nash had the vision and he had a great shot. I was so excited when he came to LA and I really thought it was going to be a fun ride. Unfortunately, his health got in the way. He was never what he was in Phoenix or Dallas. I wish him the best.

Very good read. Amazing career Steve. A lot of the very same fire and drive as Kobe who came into the league the same season all those years ago and totally knows how hard you worked to be HOF great at what you did. I too was surprised to see only Rob mentioned on the Lakers. Kept waiting for a Kobe sighting but didn't happen. Find some way Steve to be connected to pro basketball with the Lakers as long as you're living in the southland anyway and I'm sure there's some decent money to be made and players that would greatly benefit from what you can teach and show them.

Ireland said he's living in Manhattan Beach. It seems like he's made Southern California his home

It was a forgettable tenure here but at least I got to his final regular season game ever where he became 3rd all-time in assists

I didn't notice in person but it's funny that the ad scrolling under the scoreboard happened to be an ad about Prudential being the official retirement plan provider for the Lakers

No mention of Dirk Nowitzki or Amare Stoudemire either.

Here's what he said about Amare:

"What do they say about men with big hands? They have quick feet? A’mare Stoudemire had both — and he made me look like an artist at times. Thanks, big man."

    And plenty about Dirk:

"I remember when Dirk and I were nobodies. He used to say over dinner sometimes, “How are us two stiffs gonna make it in this league?” Somehow we made something of ourselves. After all the wins and all the great times we’ve had around the world together, what really means the most to me are the late nights early in our careers when we’d go back to the Landry Center in Dallas, to play a few more games of HORSE and one-on-one. Dirk and the great city of Dallas got their championship, and I couldn’t be happier for them.

Michael Finley was twice an All-Star in his prime, when Dirk and I were young guys on the Mavs. Michael never played in another All-Star Game, but our team went from last place to the Conference Finals under his watch. Do you know how rare that unselfishness is in our game? A true friend and teammate."

I actually took the time tonight to read that letter word for word; very heartfelt words coming from Steve. I felt moved a bit. If I'm getting just an inkling of that reading that letter, I could just imagine how much more I will deeply moved because of the deep emotional connection I have or that we all have...damn.

One freak play pretty much ended his career with the lakers. With that said, it was one hell of a career even before he came to us. A sure fire first ballot hall of fame.
