i wonder which pose they'll choose i'm guessing it'll be his signature dunk pose but it would be cool if they chose his reaction to the alley-oop from kobe in 2000
Awesome and he deserves it. Staples Center is the house that Shaq built. That said, of course it's Kobe who lived there longest!!
I thought the idea was that they'd have him dunking as his statue so that fans could walk up and take a picture like they were getting dunked on.
Interesting, for helping them win a championship, Shaq is getting his jersey retired in Miami...yet he's wearing a Laker championship ring during the ceremony lol.
I thought this too, but than Shaq later in the 2nd half explained that that was his Hall of Fame Ring. Not the Lakers championship ring. I laughed about that though the first time I saw that.
I hope it's a statue with his likeness from 2000. If it's a later year, it might cost substantially more.
So, I think the statue itself is pretty awesome looking, they did a very nice job. The ceremony itself was a good time, some funny and cool stories from the presenters, but Shaq himself of course being the funniest. Biggest surprise to me is how many of Shaq's teammates showed up, some guys I never thought I'd see again, like Slava and Penberthy. Classy ceremony, and a nice look for the Lakers in a down time. At the very least it puts out a good message, you can make a name elsewhere, but if you win here, you get a freakin statue.
I honestly still do find that pretty disrespectful. Covering our accomplishments with your scrubs? That's some petty bulls***. Win one of your own and you can hang a banner proudly in that stadium and make it your own. What kind of immature nonsense is it to blanket the achievements of another team just because they suck? Ridiculous.
