LeBron’s only got a couple more years and after he retires a good relationship with Klutch liking business with the Lakers going forward is not a bad thing. After the Russ trade he was forced into IMO, in reality of the power dynamics last year, in spite of the armchair GMs NOT in a vacuum likely not to have been able to do any differently or not have it turn into bad relations. At that point in time. LeBron and AD were dead set on it and HAD just delivered a recent ring. Not everything’s black and white. And Rob’s total fault / a lot of power not his also in play. He and Lakers FO such as it is have been doing best not to bend further to LeBron’s whims and wants, and have some leverage since he was the cause of the big roster deficit on the first place. A brand new perfect GM would still hope for great relations with Klutch going forward and them steering high impact players here.
If you are “forced into” making one of the worst trades in Laker history, it shows me that you have absolutely no right being the GM for the Crown Jewel of the NBA. You can continue to play your violin for Rob. I’m not stopping you. I however, will call it exactly how I see it. Btw, nobody is expecting a “perfect GM,” because one doesn’t exist. Mock us “armchair GMs” all you like, but the fact remains: We all knew trading for Westbrick would be disastrous and we were right. Have a pleasant evening.
i disagree. unless by "save the season" you mean make it less embarrassing. but nothing will make us a contender, which is the stated goal every year. re: other stuff: i have mixed feelings about the klutch relationship. i get why we're in that business, but having a single agency so intertwined in your business could cut off some other possibilities. i think once lebron is done, we might pivot fairly dramatically. but while he's here, it's rob/klutch, which, again, has been a net positive.
Just the way the cookie crumbles when teams don’t negotiate with you fairly. Myles would cost taking back a bad contract and a first. Watch the clippers get him for a backup wing and a second or something.
look at what Magic/Rob did to Indy in regards to Pg13, I dont blame them for not trading "fairly" either
This just perfectly encapsulates where we're at. These are two headlines apart on the B/R feed... Good job Rob!
It’s ok, Schröder and Bryant will fix everything. They fix our 3 point shooting, our true center problem, our depth problem, our talent problem, our top heavy roster problem. Oh wait, they don’t fix any of that. But I’m being told I should be patient, as if I’m being REACTIONARY to sucking to start the season. The Russ trade needed to be done in JULY, I’m just STILL asking for it, nothing has changed except we’re even worse than I thought. And yes this season is salvageable with a trade, we can start building some actual continuity and have multiple mid level contract players, start to look respectable again and not like a joke. The NBA isn’t championship or bust every season, otherwise 29 teams bust, you also look to build a good team for the other years. Can’t sit here and do jack s*** with this garbage roster for the whole season, the players will quit eventually, the defense has already fallen off because you can’t ask guys to play that hard every game and yet be losing.
Nobody is saying Schröder and Bryant are going to fix everything. I still thinks it makes sense to see how they fit. I can’t tell if you’re mocking people like me who feel this way, or specifically venting your frustrations for Rob. I articulated why I feel that way in the transactions thread and posted a video of the Kam Brothers feeling the same way. In the first section of this video, Trevor Lane seems to agree and makes many of the same points: To summarize, the idea isn’t that Schröder and Bryant will be a magic panacea that precludes us from even having to make a trade. The idea is that we need to understand what positions we are comfortable with so we can optimize our desired trade return, and not rush into a trade that ends up leaving us with logjams or holes at certain positions. It sounds like you agree that it’s too late to make this current team contenders, but feel the season is still “salvageable” in the sense that we could acquire longer contracts to build continuity with going into next year. Another few weeks doesn’t really change that.
That’s the thing, I totally understand that we have good reason to doubt the competence of this front office. So I get why inaction is worrying, we may just kick the can down the road and do something dumb anyway. But by that same token, shouldn’t we worry that any deal this incompetent front office rushes into due to desperation and public pressure also ends up being a bad move? That’s why I reiterate, I do NOT think of my stance as defending Rob or this front office. I just genuinely think that given our situation, patience is the correct move right now. Like if you fired Rob and gave me the keys to the organization right now, and the only concrete deals on the table required sending out two first round picks for the rumored Indiana/SAS/Utah packages, I think I would have independently came to the conclusion that we should wait it out just a bit longer. And yes, that potentially means maybe not pulling the trigger at all depending on how things shake out. We can agree to disagree on the substance of that stance. I’m just not a fan of the subtext of a lot of this rhetoric suggesting that fans that feel the way I do are delusional optimists or blind defenders of the front office.
all this. not sure how many times and ways i can say that it's weird that folks who have no faith in the front office want them under the gun to make a move. holy s*** that's terrible. rob's extension was meant to relieve that pressure, precisely to avoid such a scenario. if we DO make a panic move and send out picks to get off russ, i'll join the "fire rob" brigade immediately, btw. because that's now the worst outcome possible. it would mean we actually did waste 15 games of the season and training camp just to end up in the same spot.
