i'm with pika on most points. we tried hard to trade russ, which was right to try, and we decided it was too expensive, which was the right conclusion given the deals we've seen that were offered.

we brought in the best available coach, imo (even if i'm not sure he's a great improvement over the last one).

our FA options were limited, and we did well the vet mins and didn't over-invest in an old guy with the mini-mle, which is how big mistakes are made with those resources.

my only beef is really with the beverley trade. i felt like we moved two guys who could play sf defensively for one that really can't. but i guess it was a culture move and might have even been a favor to klutch so that THT could try to get some burn somewhere. i do like that with bevs' contract, if he falls off a cliff (possible at his age)/is a locker room problem/gets injured (very possible given his career history) we've got him, nunn, and walker as expirings that could bring in a bigger salary piece (like jerami grant last year).

so, yes, i agree with windhorst that this isn't the best case scenario, but i disagree with people saying this roster can't possibly be competitive.

I believe that our front office and Rob learned a lesson from last season. This is all just opinion on my part but here goes. Jeanie, Rob and crew had to be terribly embarrassed about last season. It was the most humiliating season I have ever seen any team have. Not the record, just the poor play and hardly any of the players putting any effort out. Coach Vogel was strung out to dry. They do seem to be doing things different. A little quieter, not making any panic deals. They hired a coach that on the surface does not appear to just be a yes man. He has the security to do what needs to be done. Seems to have the backing of everyone. The frustrations of this off-season are real but we did not do anything to cripple us going forward. I think they did everything they could to move Russ without making a really bad trade. We have a collection of players that will be fun to watch and if a trade does present itself we can make it and still have plenty of guards. If healthy we are a playoff team. If not we still will have players playing hard and won't be an embarrassment. Coach Ham has already set the table for any direction he needs to take and stated what needs to be said will be said. Starting spots and playing time will be earned not given. We are a team that will win with defense, hustle and heart around two superstars. Soon we can put the stench of last season behind us and enjoy some good basketball.

Most of the all the basketball heads on Twitter and some employed by the Lakers are concerned with the roster.

They should be...let's see what Rob uses as excuses today.

Understood that you are upset about the roster. I am too. But let’s keep it civil between our own please.

    Yeah, I've definitely got concerns.

I always hope for the best as I would always rather be wrong and the team win but I feel like this team has rarely rewarded optimism over the last decade or so. lol.

Overall, if AD and LeBron are clicking on all cylinders then you've always got a shot but that's really all I see right now. The parts look better because we were so bad last year, but there's still the need to see how well Ham can put things together. The lack of shooting is glaring though.

Just feel like we need a lot to go right to make noise.

The answer with the Twitter guys is pretty straightforward to me. Win games and they will pipe down.

Overall, I don't really think their questions /critiques right now are unfair though.

The front office spoke of moves being made and I just think they've fallen short. Still time on the clock for them to get something done but I'm firmly in the "I'll believe it when I see it camp."

This is only a forum, nobody said otherwise. But for your opinion to be relevant, you should propose alternatives. It's natural to have concerns, our baseline (roster and cap space) was pretty bad going to this offseason. What we are curious to know is what was done this offseason that was so bad that you would have done differently.
We all have opinions. But if you criticize something but don't provide any alternative, you're wrong.
    What basis?

Alternative? Didn't you just advocate to let Russ be Russ essentially in another thread?

LOL. Goodness. I see why I stay off the site.

See you guys for training camp.

excuses for what? which choice this offseason did pete and darius have mapped out better? if they're employees, why didn't they speak up? why aren't you asking them for their excuses?

here are the excuses: the russ trade doomed us, and lebron got old, and AD keeps getting hurt. would you or they have us not offer lebron the extension? trade AD? add the picks to move russ?

beyond that, it's moves in the margins. what was the deal we turned down that would have alleviated everyone's concerns? it's tired.

Well seems to me Rob has had an off season that has improved on 4 of 5 areas that were pathetic last year to give the possibility to be much better in those key areas? Low bar, yes, thanks to the mother of all bad Laker trades.

    Center rotation
    Guard rotation
    Youth and athleticism
Team defense potential (see all above points)

[Shooting] Instead of all the proclamations to the contrary (which may well be correct) the games have yet to be played.

For all the Frank Xs and Os detractors …. make it 5 out of 6.

With what he had to work with that’s batting .833. Is the roster perfect …. hell to the f*** NO. Obviously.

Basis=EVERYTHING, while I thought keeping THT was correct move, his trade value being destroyed is on the team/coaching and got dumped for a chiuawawa thats all bark and lil bite (Troll Beverly), signs another scrub like in Denis and of course Brick is still here, you think the bryant/anderson/etc. other signing are "good"....well I dont, they're mostly throwaway guys that their prior team didnt want them back, no different than the bazemore/ariza type signing

You still haven't replied to the question and I don't see how what you said relates
Ok, I see. I think Pat will be instrumental to our culture. Dennis is a great signing in terms of value for money. Bryant, Jones, JTA and Browns fills gaps of this roster. A couple of them may surprise you. We shall see

heard same on bazemore/ariza last yr too, heck even bought the hype on Nunn...Troll influence bunch of balony, read the article as to how LAC managed to get to WCF (i.e. benching the troll). Minn made strides to playoff due to Ant improving but we saw what happened to Troll in playoffs after trying to annoy Ja

i don't recall much excitement over baze, ariza, or ellington amongst the fan base. people (appropriately) hated the dj pickup. people were ok with howard and melo. i'd say the fans were generally right?

this year, people like JTA/jones/bryant/schroder and are meh on brown and down on lonnie.
