A Lakers fan and a friend and/or acquaintance of many of us has passed away. The poster known as Rooscooter has succumbed after a lengthy period of illness. I don't have much in the way of detail, but his wife reached out to me via email. He was always strongly opinionated, sometimes cantankerous, but he had a wealth of wisdom, and he is much missed.
Sad news. Such a great poster and loved hearing all of his stories and wisdom in the Open Court thread. RIP Roo. Never met him in person, but this genuinely saddens me. Just goes to show how good of guy he was. Prayers with his loved ones.
Wow. I'm floored. Horrible news. Very intelligent man. I know he irked a few with his strong opinions, but I learned a lot from him, whether we agreed or not. We tried to meet up once in OKC for a beer, but schedules didn't allow it. Really wish we could have. I'm gonna miss him. Hope his family finds peace. Rest in peace my friend.
Very sad to hear this. I could always count on Roo to go back and forth with me on something in Open Discussion when everyone else got tired of it or bored. RIP to a intelligent, wise and passionate human.
Roos and I frankly didn't get along too well, but I respected how knowledgeable he was and that he didn't back down from his opinions. Sad news. He may never have made the jump to LB 100%, but he was definitely part of the family. Rest in Peace.
Got on fine with him. As noted already, Roo was well-versed in a variety of topics. Basketball history wise, he knew his stuff. Wished him well to a full recovery in our last convo but unfortunately he lost the battle. Glad to have known him on the 'net. Condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.
I shared old Lakers codger status with Roo. I always appreciated his knowledge of the game and long term commitment to the team as a true fan. I'm very sad to hear of his passing.
I'm stunned. This is terribly sad news. He was a brilliant man, and I always enjoyed reading his posts and genuinely learning from him. My heart aches for his family, especially his children. I went back and read his goodbye PM. I think he may have known back in October that things has progressed to terminal, and he was really saying goodbye? You'll be missed, friend. We never got a chance to have that beer. Maybe on the other side.
Similar to real, Roo and I definitely didn't get along at a certain point, but I always felt he knew his stuff basketball wise and he was a true die hard Lakers fan. Rest in peace Mike
Dammit. I knew it was bad. I asked him whether he is going to make the move here from CL, and he told me that his RL stuff is taking over. RIP, Roos.
We just exchanged messages about two months ago. I wish Mike could have witnessed our return to prominence again. RIP Rooscooter
I am incredibly saddened by this news. Mike and I exchanged messages many times and he was such a kind human being to talk with. Even if we disagreed on something he did so in an agreeable and non-threatening way. He was smart and truly cared about many of us on Clublakers. Man, this is sad.
I am really saddened by this news. I never met him but reading all his strong opinions and wisdom over at CL was rewarding. He never let others opinions of his own affect how he felt about a particular subject. It's weird because even though I didn't know him my stomach felt like it was in a knot when I read that he had passed. Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed, but I know your free now of any illness and will be happy watching us continue to banter about our beloved Lakers. RIP to Rooscooter and prayers for his family.
such sad news Roo and I never seemed to agree on much but he was definitely a very wise and knowledgeable person. Sad he won't be around to see the Lakers rise back to the top. RIP Roo, you will be missed
