That's right! The season is officially over and my thread has returned and this time it won't be used sarcastically after only two weeks into the season! Want some reasons for optimism?

    1. The draft is in less than a week and we'll know what young star is joining our already talented young cast! Ingram? Simmons? Someone else? Don't matter! Another stud!

    2. Luke Walton is returning triumphantly home! He brings with him youth, fresh ideas, an ability to communicate with young players and veterans, a new-aged offense that our pieces fit perfectly into. Luke's return home sparks new hope in us as fans and our players as well!

    3. Free Agency is right around the corner and we've had our name attached to all kinds of people. Home runs like LeBron, Durant, and DeRozan? Solid players like Noah, Deng, or Parsons? Maybe we trade for someone great like Cousins, M. Gasol, or Butler? Who knows? The answer will bring us even more hope though!

    4. Byron is gone!
    5. Byron has been let go!
    6. Byron is no longer our coach!
    7. No Byron around our young players!
    8. Seriously Byron is totally fired!
    9. Look around and see no Byron!

    10. With or without any additions to the team, we've got a great young group of players. Randle, Russell, Clarkson, and Nance Jr. all have great potential and could make us a great team again given time. They each bring something unique and different and they all fit together beautifully. Even if we miss on everything this summer those four with maybe Tarik Black and Anthony Brown and our #2 pick will make for a fun and exciting season!

You pretty much covered it, real. We either get Ingram or Simmons on a rookie contract, another potentially very good player right away for cheap. And if we trade down and take Hield or someone else, we most likely get another player in that deal too. On top of that we have all these videos of our young guys all working on their games all summer, Russ, JC, Randle, Nance, even A Brown. Then Luke gets introduced tomorrow, a new era begins, no more B0ron. No more B0ron and Kobe off the books/tons of money means more attractive FA pitch. I'm very optimistic. We won't be back on top for a while, but we are starting the climb back up.

    1. Byron is not the coach anymore.
    2. Youth movement + potential to sign a star or two to complement them?
    3. Luke as coach???

    OH. EFF. YEAH!!!!!!

LOLOL.... I did because of painstakingly listed reasons 4-9. But love the manner in which this beaten up, cut up and damn near killed old thread of better days .....or was it "pipe" ..... optimistic outlook of more recent years ..... has been updated for 2016-2017.

I wanted the Warriors to win so we could further legitimize the Luke hire with his being integral to the back 2 back.

Now that this has unfolded, I honestly think we'll be better off having had Luke and the warriors choke this series away. Winning breeds irrational confidence, losing breeds humility. And room for improvement. You can bet Luke will be beating himself up figuring out how the Warriors couldve adjusted , And because of it our Lakers will be a better team.

And I can help, Luke. Have more in your personnel and playbook than most GS games and certainly down to the wire NBA final championship game .... relying on Splash Bros type insanely quick against tight physical defense JACKED long 3 point shots. Too effing much of that. That Warrior squad is not all that deep that when Bogut gets hurt there's not much of a presence down Low that can score. Green? Hell he's a point PF out near the 3 point line.

Optimistic note and weird parallel...the last summer an Independence Day Film (1996) was released, the Lakers drafted a teenage phenom who ended up being a future hall of famer. There's another Independence Day film coming out this weekend....just saying

    Everything TRD said!

Also, I would like to add, no more talk of the "T" word*** (whether an intentional or unintentional strategy by the team) regarding our Lakers. I understand that's how the league is set up, but I'm so sick of the "rooting for the draft pick" culture, that's not how Lakers fans should be thinking, it's unnatural. Also let's really screw Philly by giving them a pick in the 15-32 range!

*** I honestly think that word should be banned from the site, much like the "C" word

it's amazing what not having scott can do. even if FA is a total loss like recent years, there's lots to feel positive about. i expect legitimate, tangible growth from the young core and more competitive basketball, even if it doesn't translate to playoff basketball. baby steps. the parking brake is off.
