He liked probably his earliest tweet welcoming him to the Lakers from yours truly... Our UDFA class has been awesome with Carroll,Newman, Berry and Williams.
Alright doing a little film work on Jeffery Carroll. I don't have time to do the gif breakdown now, will likely get to it later, but what I'm seeing: He's a good rebounder, sticks out as an offensive rebounder. Think something like Gerald Green in that respect, a guy who can create more opportunities for his team. Inconsistent defensively. He can get caught ball watching, but when he's engaged he's a hard worker. Oklahoma St. played in and saw a lot of zone so it's a little tough to see what kind of one-on-one defender he is on a consistent basis, but from what I've seen he stops moving his feet sometimes. Will start in good position, but give up too quickly and too easily. Not a great ball handler, mostly a straight line driver, but he's fairly strong so he can finish in traffic. His shot release point is inconsistent, he finishes forward too often which leads to hard misses off the back iron or the backboard altogether. He likes to grab boards and push. Will fit right in with our schemes on that front. He's a surprisingly really good passer in the open floor. He's a good passer in general (not great), but can make some nice plays in transition. In the half-court he tends to pass a little too much, but that's because he isn't the best ball handler. Not a shot creator for himself or others on a consistent basis in the half court. Seems like his ceiling is set a little bit low unless he makes big strides in that area.
I don't see it as hating... He's not very good. Maybe he can latch on as an end of the bench player due to sheer hard work.
Now there is a definite possibility. He's the kind of kid who might fail, but we'll appreciate him still.
