A shooter who didn’t shoot well doesn't sound great, especially with the percentage drop every Laker faces. In our scouting department I trust.
yeah, i didn't look hard at most of the guys that were available when we were picking because i assumed if we bought in it would be in the 40s. most of my targets at 35 actually went in the 20s, so a lot of the guys from the 20s that fell i never formed an opinion on. hardy, procida, and mcgowens stand out as guys that will be compared to christie over time to see if our scouts really have the goods.
The extent of my scouting and knowledge of these college prospects was about 3 minutes of watching highlights for the top 3 picks last night. So I can’t pretend to have any insight here, other than trust in our scouting department. Welcome Max! Hoping we pull some Austin Reeves type of maneuvers to get another promising prospect or two via undrafted signings as well.
We have three high end development guys on our bench, including our head coach. Time to get to work. Sounds like he's not quite ready, just going off a few tweets. I figured we'd go with a more immediate impact player. Let's see what they can do for him + some time in the D-League. Still hoping Walker slips to undrafted.
"Michigan State's Max Christie official measurements from the NBA Combine: 6'5.75 in shoes, 6'8.75 wingspan, 8'6.5 standing reach, 189.2 lbs with 4.8% body fat." Stole it. From LG
190? hmmm...looked lighter than that on film. he looks like he'll need a year or two. which is fine. our scouts have earned a lot of trust.
This was a defensive pick and shows we are serious about being a better defensive team. Offense will come. This is a good pick. Moves well side to side, gets through screens, invades the comfort zone staying straight.
Yeah I assumed we’d go for someone who projects to be more of an immediate impact player, but in a way it’s almost reassuring that we’d select the prospect we believe has the most long term promise rather than focusing solely on the short term.
sam vencnie on christie: Christie is a project, pure and simple. A team’s evaluation of him comes down to where it is organizationally with its roster spots and how confidently it feels about developing his frame over the next two years. He will not be effective as a rookie. If you draft Christie, you’re hoping he takes the next year and a half, adds 15 pounds to a frame that desperately needs it and becomes the lights-out shooter he has potential to be. https://theathletic.com/3380606/2022/06/23/nba-draft-grades-analysis-2022-vecenie-hollinger
hope they weren't banking on him being a shooter. he shot 32% from 3 but i like what i'm hearing about him defensively
