Yeah, he's not as far along as I hoped going into the year. Before the season I had him locked in for 18 minutes a night. I don't think he's there yet. But he can definitely give you a couple productive short shifts a game. He's better than DNPs and better than those excess minutes that the teacher's pet is getting just cause.

i hear you, but i think he could play the 18mpg, too. he's not ready to be a part of a regular 8-man rotation, but he can be part of a 10-man rotation (which some teams play in the regular season to good effect).

I guess Hamster is happy with how he held Austin back because he’s doing it this time with Max.
Christie isn’t going to get better watching from the bench. Yeah, his shot isn’t quite there yet, but he’s doesn’t make dumb mistakes with the rock, attacks the rim with aggression, and most importantly, plays very solid D for a youngling.

He's 20 freaking years old. He's shown noticeable progression from last SL until now.

He's going to be a good player in this league. As he naturally gets stronger and the 3 ball gets more consistent, he'll be a 3 & D guy at the very least in this league for a long time.

he'll likely be more than 3 and D, imo. he can hit midrange pullups, drive and finish, and even handle in the pick and roll some. all of those skills are probably nearly as developed as his three and d right now, tbh.

pretty amazing he made it to the second round when you think back on it. he was a fairly big time recruit who played for michigan state, so it's not like scouts weren't properly aware. everyone just decided 34 players were better?

And Ham is giving Max, who is NOT some “huge” fall off on D and who most likely would see his offensive skills and shooting % take off on an upward projectory THIS year …. DNPs and limited time in games for one player in Reddish who’s got far less offensive potential and won’t be here next year. And Prince who won’t be here next year. It’s holding back Reaves last year too long, now being duplicated with Max. With Ham now doubling down on screwing with Reaves AGAIN.

Agreed. I just don’t get Ham’s prioritizing guys who are vet min/MLE one year contracts over our long term players we have invested $ and years in. It’s bizarre to me.

Max was awful the last couple of times he played before Charlotte: I mean really really bad.
I think people are memory holing his bad moments.

I do like him far more without the ball in his hands

Because his shots didn't drop? Which with regular minutes per game shaved off Prince and/or Reddish who aren't going to be here next year .... the shooting from deep will go up most likely. But he can score in other ways if he isn't always looking over his shoulder for the short hook. Like develop "me" some regularly during the season looking toward the playoffs. Shots definitely dropped nicely this last outing.

What else? Defense seems pretty consistently decent, along with nose for ball rebounding ..... and pretty much untapped mid range game due to fear of "the hook". And yes needs to keep putting some good muscle weight on.

He's maybe a year or two away but I still like max as a 3 and D type. He rebounds well, not a bad defender (not great but not bad), can attack a closeout.
Don't think he's be a guy who you can put the ball in his hands to create or you're going to get into trouble but I think he's have a solid career still

    Didn't expect this one.

Chipped in, made some mistakes but did more than most our guys tonight. The backcourt minutes with JHS were close your eyes awful, I put most of that on JHS. Maybe don't telegraph your passes though, Max.

Max is playing better. Defense looks

He just cannot handle the ball: he has no awareness and turn it over.

You can't simulate NBA games, through practice and film study. He's going to make some mistakes, it's part of the process. Max freezes up a little bit sometimes, when he has the ball and has to make decisions. That's understandable, he's still green. If he's on the court with Lebron or Austin, he shouldn't be put in the position of the facilitator IMO.

Just don't make him be a ballhandler or playmaker.
Coming into his own as a nice secondary defender and off ball finisher.

Rather then Cam/Vando together play Max with him. He's earning more minutes - hopefully he's one court awareness keeps getting better and he continues to move away fro the bad TO's he was having

Needs to play more minutes than Reddish. At least take 5 from Cam and 5 Prince

He should have played A LOT more in today's game. He was defending Powell VERY well and of course, the second he's not in the game, Powell goes off.
