From his fight in Detroit to where he is now is a real testament of how hard he's worked. Not just as a player, but on his mental health and maturity. We can always use a former player who knows how to teach defense. And if any of the young guys get out of line, I'm sure he knows how to take care of them too.
Be smart Ron, your playing days are over in the NBA. We all know how much you love the game but do the right thing and stay with the Lakers as an assistant. BTW, If we had Luke sooner, i bet Steve would be around too.
He's said repeatedly he wants to be a 20 year pro. He wants that on his record. Pro doesn't necessarily mean NBA though. He may end up going back to China instead of taking this coaching position right now.
Honestly, he could still probably ball pretty well in China. I do think we could use a defensive assistant though, and I'd echo John's sentiments and welcome him.
Ron, take this opportunity to become an assistant coach and mentor to so many young players. We need you in this capacity.
I don't think he's going to take a coaching job with us. I'd love it, he'd still get to be around the guys, he'd still get to play with them on the practice court, but he seems to still want to be a player. I think he's done, but if he isn't ready to hang em up yet, then I can't fault him for trying to play here or even overseas while he still can.
