No idea why this took so long, but it's good news. I'm assuming this will give us more trade options than the exception we got from Randle. I doubt it, but does anyone know if we can combine the exceptions?

We cannot combine both exceptions for 1 player, but we can use both of the exceptions for 2 players as long as their contracts match up with the total. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but thats how I interpreted the rule.

No idea, but honestly I don't know what we can do with this in the first place. Who would want to trade anything that benefits us right now?

1.) You cannot combine any exceptions
2.) You cannot combine the exceptions with players in trades
3.) The DPE can only be used for trade of players in the last year of their deals
4.) The DPE can only be used to sign a FA for the remainder of the season only, no future years can be added
5.) We need an open roster spot to use the DPE, we do not gain one with the exception

We'd have to cut some players and/or apply for the hardship exception to even use this or Randle's DPE's. If we're granted the hardship exception then we can get a 16th player but once Ryan Kelly comes back someone would have to be cut.

Cut any/all of Ronnie Price, Ryan Kelly, and Xavier Henry if it'll give us a shot to improve the team.

This is literally the stupidest NBA rule ever. Not only you have a player out for the most of the season, you have to cut 1 additional player
    to sign someone.

    So stupid, my brain hurts.

My guess is - there is some even more asinine explanation in spirit of: "If we did allow a roster spot, teams would abuse it by fakingly DPE-ing their players". Classic school "we don't want to watch kids on the playground during the recess, so there are no recesses!" BS.

Well, the question is, how bad does the front office truly want to improve a team that is headed to the lottery again. Do they want to add five or six additional, meaningless wins to the record which might pop us out of the top five protected picks and hand our first rounder to the Suns? It's a harsh question, but a harsh reality.

Eh, I honestly don't think we're bad enough to get our first rounder anyways. We've had a brutal schedule and our second best scorer just came back from injury last week. Yet if things just went a bit differently in that Denver game, we'd be sitting at 4-10 which would put us at the 7th draft position. (Note, I'm not trying to make excuses for that Denver loss, I'm just trying to show how close we are to being outside of the top 5 despite having a brutal start to the season).

I've read somewhere that the FO doubts we'll use it at this point. Fact is, it's hard to find an unsigned FA worth almost MLE money (who also can't sign for additional years) and the chances of one becoming available by trade who is in their last year and therefore expiring are really low as well. More likely to use the DPE of Randles I think.

I read AK47 is an option. I'll see if I can track down the source.

After seeing this team now and knowing the playoffs are out of reach, I wouldn't use it. Bring up Manny Harris and Roscoe Smith, let go of X and Price. No one on that list is a game changer for us this season. We stink.

I'd rather bring in young talent and develop them, we aren't making the playoffs so no need for veteran players.

Still don't understand this though, they give us an exception to use on a player but we need to cut a healthy player to be able to add another player? Makes no sense to me.

It took so long because we were trying to move it. Obviously no one wants a dead roster spot, even if it is an expiring.

I'm totally fine and in favor of letting go of Price and Henry, but you dont waive Ryan Kelly. He has some basketball smarts, good shot, and is an underrated team defense guy.

Yeah, Ryan Kelly could still possibly contribute for us this year and he's a nice young player for the future or for trade. Bummed about Henry but I could see letting him go as he's just been brutalized by injury. I would love to have an upgrade at backup PG but with the talk of Clark being signed I don't see it.
