so if kobe averages 20 ppg x 164 games that puts him past MJ but shy of Malone but within striking distance. Knowing how competitive he is (and how malone hit on his wife) - bets on kobe signing another 2 year deal in 2016 to stay with lakers and take less $ as both thank you to lakers for the opportunity to both get no 6 and 7 and pass Karl and build a dynasty to pass the torch to?

I don't think he will honestly. We also have to factor in that he will most likely miss some games at his age as well. I think he passes MJ and that is it, and he retires after 20 seasons. The only way I could see him staying longer is if we somehow put together a championship caliber roster this offseason, or next, and even then he'd have to take a huge paycut and for his standards be a piece of the team or more role player than the man, which he has said he isn't willing to do. So to stay on and keep losing on awful teams just to pass Malone, I don't see it.

Do you thnk laker or kobe fans would be pissed at him for signing a deal with NY in 2016 for a discount if his goal was to keep playing and hit all time scoring record while chasing rings?

I don't think he would do that, but after 20 years given to us, I'd be fine with him doing what he wants. If this franchise continued to fail to put a winning team around him and he wanted to give it one more go with Phil, under Fish if he's still there, good for him. I think At that point the Lakers would be ready to move on and look for their next star anyway.

Jim Buss said he'd Fire himself if he did not return lakers to greatness within 4 years. Could be interesting in 2016-2017

I honestly don't believe Jim or Jeanie with this 3/4 year window stuff. I think they're supremely, and overly confident they'll turn things around by then simply because we're the Lakers. When that time comes if we've made any seemingly big strides at all (2nd round in the playoffs), I can see them saying, we're clearly on our way so the FO is doing their job. Because I mean the reality is this team is so far away from being a contender, that a statement like that isn't exactly untrue.

When is pj and fish contract up in ny? There is enough time on it for a reunion tour on par with 'this is it' in the garden

I cannot see Kobe sticking around just to chase Malone on that list unless we made some serious strides in improving the team and became contenders sooner rather than later, and I don't expect that to happen.

Kobe wants to go down as the greatest ever. If he can't get no 6 in rings. Longevity and total points are all he has left. Wonder if laker fans turn on him if he finished up in ny to do that after this contract is up.

Only thing Kobe's concerned with is the hardware; rings, trophies. I don't think he truly cares that much about his position on the all time scoring leaders list to go play for the Knicks. I just don't see it.

The question is- if he did (not saying I know what he wants) would you turn on him?

I'd always appreciate what he's done for us so I wouldn't resent him for it, but as a Lakers fan what is really meaningful to me is the fact that he's going to have spent two decades with us after his current contract is up,so to see him in another uniform would stink. It's a part of his legacy IMO.

This. Even though I would like to see him break some records I dont think he cares nearly as much as we think

I think it all just depends on him and his body. If his body makes it relatively healthy through the next two seasons, I think he could hang on for a year-by-year kind of thing. I don't know if that's what he'll do, but last night you saw he's got the fire left.

It'll come down to a lot of factors.
    - Are the Lakers competitive in 2016?
    - Is he healthy in that summer?
    - Is there enough money to make him a respectable offer after we rebuild our team around another star or two?
    - Does he still have the fire left in him after 20 years in the NBA?
    - Do we NEED him? If there's not a role for him after we rebuild our team, then I don't think he'll stick around.

There's a bunch of others. I don't think the stats have NOTHING to do with it, but I don't think they will factor in as much as the above.

The only thing he cares about is passing Michael ( which he will barring another important injury )

I could see him wanting to be above Malone. Initially I thought New York makes sense for a place for him to go to chase stats and maybe a ring if things change up. Should we boo him in 2 years if he does so? No, but people love to boo ex players. He will not be the main weapon for the Knicks or any other team them, and you have to say both the Lakers and Kobe have mutually benefited by being together.
