He's been linked to some NFL teams over the past 3-4 years. Haven't heard any real NBA interest. He was in a long list of rich people who might have been interested in the Suns before they sold. I don't think it matters if he likes sports. He likes money and has a lot of it. If they put TNF and LOTR ads on Amazon boxes, just imagine the games he could advertise for his team. He could litter a box with: Lakers @ Warriors, 7 PM, Sunday only on Prime and they slap on a couple logos, picture of Bron, etc. There's a lot of money to be gained from that opportunity.
this is definitely why the clips and gs have been better than we have for the past few years, imo. the luxury tax is a spectre behind all of our moves. it would be more defensible if we were indiana. btw, this is even greater reason to scratch heads about the russ deal. we could have just let harrell and schroder drop off the books (i'd have HATED this, btw) and had similar financial benefits. i just can't get over the russ trade. so bad.
clips haven’t won s*** and never will win s***. GSW won because they drafted Steph, Klay and Draymond and lucked into Durant because Steph had a favorable contract before Durant came because of Stephs ankle issues at the beginning of his career. Spending unlimited money doesn’t mean much at the end of the day. If you need proof, look at the dodgers the last decade until this off season. Had a bunch of spineless chokers 9 out of 11 times because they have gutless play when it matters and a dinkus manager that couldn’t motivate a meth addict into smoking more meth.
i said they've been better than us, and with the exception of one year, that's been the case. we could have been more competitive if we had unlimited cash for the past four years. it's why the nets have been able to recover from their mess, too, imo. anyway, yes, it is not sufficient to have lots of money, but it's almost certainly necessary to spend it if you want to compete at the highest level. top 5 payrolls in the league: gs, bkn, clippers, milwaukee, boston. milwaukee and boston outspend us by caruso's salary plus. the others outspend us by that plus what we could have recouped in salary had we signed and traded schroder on top of that.
jeff@amazon.com (Seriously). should we start a change.org petition for Bezos to make a godfather offer to Jeanie???
Jeannie aint selling nothing, using Dr. Buss as a pretense as to why.....she doing more harm than good for his legacy, once Bron is done playing with Ironman AD this will be a treadmill team, not bad enough to get high lotto picks but just decent enough to get 9th-12th
Jeanie's heart is always in the right place as team owner. It's her head that I wish was more like her Dad's.
I am a fan of Jeannie. And I think she is the most like her dad of the family members. That’s why he put her in ultimate charge. I think the difference so far has appeared to be his uncanny ability to find the right fit for the organization in his hires. He was incredibly skilled in that department. Some of it may have been luck/fortune/destiny but it can’t all be! His success was just too great for so long for it to be that. He was certainly a brilliant person. I think Jeannie is an excellent business mind but maybe she values loyalty to a fault. That’s not the worst quality in business but I agree with others in feeling she may not have put the best people in decision roles here. I don’t trust the Rambii in their roles at all for obvious example and the fact that Kurt doesn’t even have a job description but seems to have a lot of say behind the scenes is pretty horrifying.
i've harped on this before, but organizations that have these are bad organizations. i know because my organization currently has one. it just makes it hard to take good collective action when roles aren't defined and accountability doesn't match authority.
Great point and coming from your personal experience gives it even stronger validation. You know it first hand. I’m sorry, abeer3, that sounds nightmarish. Out of your hands and control. And yes I believe that’s happening with the Lakers FO as well. The Kurt shadow GM thing is terrible for the franchise. It’s a shame that it’s the reality.
Right, and the ever present influence of the greater Rambis (Linda) is even more concerning to me than Kurt. At least he has some solid basketball influence in learning under Riles then PJ. Linda has what reason to have any voice in FO decisions...
