I'm fine with this pickup given the price. We still need depth & insurance at the 5. What are our options.?

Our guards are going to have fun with him.

    These were his combine measurements

I actually really like this signing. He brings energy and attitude. We need one of those. I think Lebron, AD and others will slap him upside the head if need be. Really not much down side.

Until I see otherwise, I’m going to keep delusional hoping for Christian Wood.

also, the off court sh*t doesn't really bother me. Went and watched the video of it. He was kind of treated poorly. Not great decision making and he seemed a bit drunk to me. But the cops actually decided to review the cops who were dealing with him and there is some reason to believe that they think he was handled unfairly and may drop all the charges. We will see.

I don’t really care with how he dealt with the cops in that altercation.

I care that the reason the cops were called in the first place is because he was roughing up his girlfriend

    https://www.tmz.com/2022/03/25/nba-jaxson-hayes-sued-assault-battery-sofia-jamora-lapd-arrest-taser/

There’s also this, which obviously isn’t really a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but has always made me feel the dude is a bit of an immature douche.

Most Pelicans fans seem pretty happy he’s gone and I’ve read them describe him as having “negative basketball IQ”

But I digress… I’m going to try to stay positive. He’s young, hopefully he matures both on and off the court. I think we have a good culture around the team that should help him develop

yeah, he seems like a real zag for me in terms of how we've prioritized young players. he's dumb, on and off the court. mo is maybe that way, too, but at least the police haven't been involved.

hoping he's monk; wishing he was wenyen.

He and Reddish are 2 guys who have the talent to play in the NBA at a good level but haven't done it due to non-talent issues.

We got both at the vet min so they basically have their last big opportunity to secure a future in the NBA.
They also are not expected to play heavy minutes, so you just need 15 good minutes from them each night.

It also helps the group they will integrate. We have a culture created by Ham of grit, defense and hardwork, tough guys like LeBron, Gabe, Reaves or Vando. If you don't feed off of it, not sure where you will have a better scenario in the NBA.

    I like the gamble.

Yeah, he’s dumb and the stuff with his girlfriend is inexcusable.
Remember the reclamation project that was Ron Artest? Not saying that Jackson has the talent level of Ron Ron, but there have been many players who have come through this League that didn’t mature enough until later in their careers.
Maybe Hayes will be one of them, maybe he won’t? Low cost, possible high value if he can mature, learn a jump hook, and become a solid defender.

he's a great gamble on the minimum. i'd like him to be the third string big that has to impress in camp to get minutes.

Any film of him defending Jokic? I would have preferred a bruiser who could set screens on offense and be a threat to Jokic on the glass.

Oh well he is young and super athletic: maybe Ham can turn him into a Robert Williams type on defense

He has live legs, and some athleticism, and aggressiveness to his game. The Pelicans played him some at 4, so he has some versatility too. He also has a bit of an anger management issue, but to his credit, he's stayed out of trouble since his incident.

I don't know if he's the answer at 5, but that's some good value on a minimum contract. Bigger, more athletic than Wenyen, I'm interested into how we use him.

All I want Hayes doing is blocking shots, rebounding and running the floor.

Does he set good screens? A big who can set good screens basically can negate any spacing issues

He’s pretty skinny. Not sure if he’s a good screener or not.

When you hear about how athletic he is and see his highlight dunks, you would think he’d be capable of all that…

But unfortunately from what I’ve heard, running the floor and dunking is pretty much all he can do.

Apparently doesn’t have the strength or situational awareness to be a good rebounder/shot blocker.

i'm always wary of low iq players. so hard to win with them. the early book on hayes is he's generally clueless. and even elite athleticism can't make up for not being in the right place. it's the reverse marc gasol situation.
