http://hoopshype.com/storyline/carmelo-anthony-trade-2/ So Melo is officially up for sale in New York (See link above ). With the Lakers misfortunes in free agency: Paying too much for role players, not signing similar role players of the past to smaller deals, not getting meetings with stars, etc..... Is it time to finally take a few pieces of the young group and turn them into a star player with some power to get other stars to LA (Looking at CP3's upcoming FA)? Or do we stick with what we got and ride this wave of inconsistency? My opinion: Melo is most likely a buy low candidate since Phil has played his hand and put himself in a corner. This instantly takes DAR/Ingram/Zu/Randle off the table for me. This leaves Nance, who I think will be injury prone his entire career, but in games he does play will be an elite glue guy. Clarkson who has shown to be a great 6th man, but his passing and defense leaves a lot to be desired. Both still great young prospects that New York needs in a rebuild on friendly deals. Deng / Clarkson / Nance for Melo / Jennings I live with that deal, not sure NY does, but hey there are talks about him going to the Clippers for players not named CP3, BG, DJ, so this easily trumps that.
I mean, you could have easily clicked the link and read Melo's actual response to that question, but I'll provide that for you..... So yea it's open to interpretation, hence, discussion...
I'd love that deal. I don't know that Carmelo comes here though. I feel like the only teams he'd waive his no-trade clause with are contenders. If you pull that deal off though you get a suitable back-up PG for a player who has had injury issues and you get a marketable piece who is close to expiring anyway. Russell/Jennings/Calderon/Huertas Young/Williams Anthony/Ingram Randle/Black/Robinson Mozgov/Zubac I'd roll with it. Spacing would improve although ball movement wouldn't. The winning lineup would be: Russell or Russell Ingram Williams Anthony Ingram Randle Anthony Zubac Randle/Zubac (matchup) I dig it.
ok but in all honestly, Deng value is pretty negative at this point. You'd be lucky to get a bad contract in return for him thats maybe a yr or two shorter, let alone a star like Melo. But hey if Phil bites then I gladly welcome the move, not having to see Deng around any more is more than enough for me, wouldn't really expect anymore winning with Melo but dude at least can score more than 5 pts a game.
Hmmm. Doesn't Melo also have a 15% trade kicker? If you consider Woj's report accurate that the Lakers went after Millsap, they may inquire about Carmelo. Would I do it? I'm not sure.
Clippers and Knicks should just revisit those old Melo for Griffin trade talks. Melo would waive his no-trade clause to play with his boy Chris Paul on a contending Clippers team. I don't see him coming to the Lakers for various reasons. Then the Knicks can turn around and send Griffin in a separate deal, as long as he is by himself and not packaged with others, to the Lakers for say Deng and Randle. BOOM!
Before even getting into whether this is a great move bringing in a nearly 33 year old (albeit a star) who's going to have the net result of stunting growth on a rebuilding team, how do we get in the neighborhood of 20 million going out to New York? Phil is going to take a stupid pill and take Moz or Deng?
I'd love to include Deng. My goodness; I'll deal with an aging Melo over an aging Deng any day of the week.
I think for Lakers fans it's pretty negative because we had high hopes for him to come in and put up 15/8 or some impressive stat line, but around the league he is still a salvageable player if he's in the right system, playing the 4 exclusively and not depended on to make plays on the offensive end aside from corner 3s and second chance plays. NY needs assets in a bad way as their roster is pretty low in terms of value. Add in the fact that Melo is not in his prime and few teams where he would actually go and the deals that are out there, might not be much better. NY is in a tough situation right now which is ideal for low ball offers.
That sounds like a "Jeanie I'm sorry / Take me back PLEASE!!!!" kind of offer that should get Phil fired, but if we can get the league to approve it then I'd love it.
#1 Goal of the Lakers: develop Ingram. Trading for Melo sets that goal back a long way. Any other position and I'd be for it. Maybe slide Melo to PF. But Ingram has to play.
i'd do that. doubt nyk does, and i doubt melo oks it. no biggie; the team's real issue is an allergy to defense. melo doesn't help there.
Mellow is too old, not enough defense. Other than that, at least he might be able to score in the clutch a little. I am neither for or against getting him, but it makes no sense to trade him for a player management really likes. So that leaves Clarkson, and maybe Nance as the only young assets to trade, but Knicks wouldn't do it unless we include someone else of worth. I don't want Nance to go
