    Couldn't find an appropriate existing thread to post this, plus I thought it'd be fun to add a poll to gauge how us Laker fans as a whole would feel in this hypothetical scenario...

    (Fellow mods, feel free to move or merge this thread if deemed necessary.)

    Obviously, we all know this pick & our 2019 1st round pick go bye-bye if we don't land in the top 3 in this year's draft. As it sits now, the Lakers have the draft lottery's 3rd best odds at the top pick. Unfortunately, that only provides a slightly less than coinflip's shot at landing in the top 3 of the draft & keeping our pick (at 46%).

    I personally really like the consensus #3 prospect Josh Jackson, and feel he'd certainly be an excellent fit on our roster with his overall skill, good defense, and elite athleticism. However, the consensus at this point seems to be that Fultz & Ball are the clear #1 & 2 in this year's draft, and I won't argue with that. Plus, if we land one of those guys, we either have our starting backcourt set for the next 10+ years, or it makes a great asset in Russell more expendable if we can land a star for him (& others) right now.

    This is so easy for him because of the simple fact that if we keep our pick this year we also keep our first in 2018 or 2019 (Forgot what year it is). So give me the guaranteed #3 pick right now.

    yeah, i think this hypothetical is only a tough choice if you truly believe it's a two player draft. i don't, so i take the guaranteed pick.

    Draft is about as weak as I have seen. If the Lakers had to lose this pick, this was the year to do it. The only use for this pick is to trade it with a package for a star.

    Which button do you hit?

    Button A: Guaranteed $1 million

    Button B: 10% chance at $25 million

    I know the odds are different with the NBA lottery, but I'm taking the guarantee. Every time. Deep draft too. #3 probably won't get us Fultz or Ball, but I'm not sad at the other options available.

    No its not...you do know if we lose this yrs pick we also end up owing Orl an unprotected 1st in 2019 as well instead of 2 2nd rd picks. So regardless of how weak this draft is (you seem to be the only one who think that way, most are saying this is one of the deepest)...keeping the pick means more for the future than just this yr

    I disagree intensely with this take.

    There are some good draft options in 2018 if we do lose the pick though.

    i don't know if the draft is the weakest i've seen, but i will say that i don't understand the hype. i don't see a superstar, and i think a lot of the projected high picks (including the beloved lonzo) have serious bust potential.

    I have watched a lot of basketball in my time. I have watched Fultz and Ball play. They are not game changers to a team. The kind of game changers that go deep in the NBA playoffs. Even if they end up playing really really well, it won't matter. Lakers need a transcendent player or 2 to have a chance at running the title run again. They maybe get it with Russell and Ingram but they can't keep drafting players in the top 3 and turn into the Sixers waiting for them to become stars in 3 or 4 years. They need to start winning now and bring in the right guys to develop these two.

    I told you guys the second we signed Mosgov it was a disaster. Many may have believed it but you were trying to be optimistic and didn't say he would be terrible, which I get. With exception of maybe 2 or 3 people, myself included in that number, most hoped. I don't live in hope. I live in what's what. And I am telling you, Lonzo Ball is not a franchise player and neither is a guy who couldnt even take his team to the tourney as the quote and quote "1st overall potential player".

    I still do not think Mozgov was a disaster. I'm very firm in that opinion. Deng was the player I was utterly wrong about. He may be the worst contract the Lakers have handed out ever.

    I'm not sure if Ball is Kobe or Magic but he is very good. He may be the smartest player I've seen in a long time. I can't think of the last college kid who had his combination of smarts and talent. We'd be lucky to have him.

    Agree 100%. Moz still has use. Deng, not so much. He aged from 28 to 50 really fast.

    And I'd bet Ball doesn't come close to Kobe or Magic, but who is? Ball still has great composure for a 19 year old. He's special. We'd be really lucky to get him.
