i've asked the rob lynch mob repeatedly which specific moves they'd have executed this summer given our constraints, and i think nobody has actually attempted to answer the question directly. i.e.: "i would have traded two firsts for jerami grant" or "i would have attached 3 seconds to reddish to clear a spot for <insert specific player here>" it's just "you can't do nothing". i mean, you can...if doing things would be worse. anyway, i'm not going to beat my chest about anything. we've had nice start--better than i expected. but it's a long year. we're in a honeymoon period with jj--which is part just getting over the ham hangover. i'm really hoping that no matter the results, we can all feel at the end of this season that jj will last his entire coaching contract. that in itself would be a huge victory going forward, both internally and externally.
Damn straight. As mentioned numerous times it’s like the rage directed at Pelinka for not being able to do a deal without the team getting screwed to have to start and play Westbrook for the second season. The FO just took it and did what they had to do. Very like as well the off season after Magic quit and was IMO directly sabotaging the team with his media road show bashing the Lakers and calling Rob a backstabber, all while he HAS to get the AD trade done with a pissed off NO owner and GM, plus try to land Leonard and then have to pivot to plans B and C. Fans were irate no one from FO or Jeanie herself would talk to them. They kept their heads down and took care of business as best they could and won a championship.
yeah, i don't think our FO is perfect by any stretch, but the complaints just got out of control, current results aside. the revisionist history on the vet min player options was the funniest part to me. like...zero people had anything to say about this--the apparent height of idiocy--when it happened. and now it's "everybody knows you don't do this!" no. you want to get mad at the FO about caruso, the westbrook trade, any of the magic moves, etc.? i'm down. terrible. but we've done fairly well with one hand tied behind our back, whether we tied it or not. meanwhile, we've got praise for gms and teams that purposefully tie their hands to keep expectations low and use it for job security. this is a tough job. anyway, this is the redick discussion (another move roundly and vociferously criticized). i don't know if he's ty auerbach, but he sure beats the hell out of ham. and i'm confident saying that even this early.
Honestly should have gone with Cam to finish the game instead of Gabe. Gabe fought but between him, Dlo, and Max Suns cooked this guys with screen and rolls that got Rui off Durant
Hey a coach that takes blame and doesn’t start saying our players s*** the bed, that’s new. He’s right, Durant killed us with Gabe out there, but as was my fear going in with this roster, there’s not much he can do, who else is he going to call on, Reddish?
Let’s see how JJ does after a loss. And see what they can do against the Cavs and Mitchell but AD must still play well to support a bounce back LeBron game, hopefully.
I actually forgot about this because we lost, but man, we finally have a coach who can draw up a late game out of bounds play. It was a good look, Reaves just didn’t convert, probably why Budz fouled next time.
reddish has probably been our best option against durant. and durant's roasting everyone right now. he's looked phenomenal to start the year. pretty much nobody has any options there. you force him to take these tough twos and hope he misses enough or you make enough. one of our stars had an uncharacteristically bad night, else we probably win anyway.
I like that Redick is constantly scheming and is trying to put his players in positions to succeed. Take that over empty rhetoric.
OK name dropper that y’all know me for just finished an hour ago looking through a looong lens closeup 2 shot at Tom Brady in a celebrity appearance fire up the troops 40 minute Q and A with an executive of a major software/AI security company that’s having a partners summit this week in LA. I tell you that’s a fine looking man!! But why I bring it up is that listening to him speak with the gift of eloquence and intelligence like Redick, and to hear him talk about the (sicko) level of mental preparation he put into his athletic career …. and now like JJ having to do the same (in a whole new gig) in NFL broadcasting …. I was thinking how similar the approach and communication talents of these two guys. Jeezus 7 freaking Super Bowl rings. No doubt though you can see he’s got the talent, smarts, work ethic and charisma to be successful in his new occupation. I think we finally have a winner of a new coach for a long time for the Lakers …. for all the same reasons.
that's a pretty neat experience, and i think this stuff is real. it's part of why the redick interest never bothered me. there's both steve kerr and pat riley vibes there. doesn't mean he'll be as successful as them, but i see why people would believe. and i actually saw the same characteristics in dan hurley. i just think jj was ready for our job and hurley wasn't. which is fine. hurley will have a great career doing what he wants to do. jj may end up having a higher profile gig and bigger name, though--competing on the biggest stage.
Wow! Night and day comparison with that fool who was incorrectly labeled a “coach” last season and the dude we have leading the team now. I think the FO may have finally gotten the coaching hire right this time.
