Pimple had a bleep load of plays tho when he got here and if I recall during the first week kind of apologized maybe he was giving the team too much stuff too quickly? HE was probably the one getting confused.
These people serious with all this horse s***? No one notice the exact script the Lakers have been running? Come out flat as run over road kill, make a fake comeback and then lose by double digits after they quit towards the end of the 4th? I seriously feel like I’m in the twilight zone with the amount of delusion going on with this team.
Lol..It is only the 1st preseason game tho. It looks like Jalen is in great shape. The Rook has a little game Max looks like Max Lewis looks like a bust. Other than that. TBD We'll see how it looks by the last preseason game.
I really like how he talks. He holds himself accountable, clearly communicates what he expects to happen and it's very clear when he explains what didn't work so well. Miles ahead of Ham, he actually has a clue and a system he's trying to implement. Now, can that bring results? We'll see...but it's a good start. I think what usually happens with personalities like him is that he's his biggest enemy with all the perfectionism and overthinking. Hopefully he finds ways to manage that with his experience and of the staff.
as an educator, the second one here is something i struggle with all the time--am i not being clear here? i feel like i'm conveying a message, and it's not playing out in performance? what do i do next? hopefully, he's better at this than i am, lol--but thinking about it is the first step. i don't think ham really thought about whether he was communicating his ideas effectively. i think this explains why he leaned on vets like prince so hard. they were on the same wavelength without effort--but you have to be able to connect with lots of people. connecting with one or two makes you a beloved assistant. communicating with the majority makes you an effective leader. we'll see if he can figure it out here. but the answer can't always be "get me people who understand me".
Yup. This is what separates the great coaches from the pack. I couldn’t stand Antoni because he had no clue how to coach without leaning on Nash to do most of the work. I think everyone agrees that JJ is a very good X’s and O’s guy, but can he take what’s in his head and get the guys to reproduce it on the court? Also, does he have the interpersonal skills to make connections with all of the different personalities on the team?
The amount of info we're given on their progress, how much they've learned, how many of the plays they're trying to implement and how many they've successfully implemented. Uncharted waters for us fans. Definitely not the norm.
Oh man, thank goodness, the idea of this team shooting 50 threes was scary. We do not have the personnel for that
jj is clearly joking a lot of the time with the press, imo. he knows the caricature and how he's played into it, but he's not that extreme. my only gripe is that we're really not all in on defense, both from a management and a coaching perspective. but i've griped about that since we moved for westbrook, and we haven't gone back.
he's stressing it in terms of individual playing time (knecht soundbites), but not in terms of the overall strategy he's espousing, which is basically all about offense, all the time.
I think JJ is applying the philosophy of paying attention to the little things as the first defensive concepts and I like that. Can’t get too in the weeds about defense when installing a bunch of new offensive actions. So far I’ve liked JJ emphasize you either crash the boards or get back but whatever you do, you don’t hesitate. Be decisive and corners should be crashing the boards most of the time. Austin and Dlo have been playing a bit more pressure than usual as well. We only saw it for a bit in the second game but playing Hays and AD together, letting AD play PF and roam on defense is a good defensive look. I think we’ll see more of a cohesive defensive philosophy form as JJ sees more of what he’s working with.
If Gabe can get comfortable with his role here, Max can develop into a dependable defender, Dalton can play league average D, and we can get a real secondary big, our D will significantly improve. Even if only two of these happen, I’ll be pretty happy.
We will see with the regular season but JJ seems to realize what few do. For young guys to improve and be dependable, they need to play. Very much like what he is doing so far.
this may all be true, but i'd prefer we not have leaks bashing ham. we all know what we saw; no need to pile on after he's gone. i get that the media has to dig for this stuff, though.
