Yeah, he’s physically strong, definitely bigger than Dennis. He’s listed around 6’2”-6’3”, 200lbs. Fish was a bit shorter but even more buff.

I’d grown kind of fond of Schroder last year. He went from dumkopf to the Shrewd dude in my nicknames for him over the two stays here. But $13 million per is pretty steep. Good on him for getting paid in Toronto and hopefully Gabe Vincent will be a similar fit for the backup PG role.

I think it will be a discussion all season, who starts and who finishes. It will keep them both on their toes and the team will benefit from that.
I don't have a favorite and look forward to see both fighting for it.
Also, I can see them playing together for some time too

I’ll miss Dennis, helped won a lot of games when we didn’t have our two stars.

I hope Vincent gives us some great games to justify moving away from DS.

I don’t think this is the case. It’s been widely reported that Vincent was the raptors first choice if they couldn’t retain FVV. We signed Vincent to the MLE before FVV signed to Houston. Toronto then pivoted to Schroeder. It’s highly probable that if we gave the MLE to Dennis instead of Vincent, he is here now.

Our scouts and talent evaluators who have been excellent for almost a decade don’t just do college. I trust them. Vincent is going to be an upgrade IMO. Especially on offense.

I don’t understand why some are so down on this signing. I watched a lot of Heat games this playoffs and he was absolutely huge for them. He’s a better decision maker, passer and shooter than Dennis. He is a decent defender as well. There isn’t a massive chasm between what Dennis provides on D and what Vincent does. I love this addition and I think many here will be pleasantly surprised with what he brings this season.

i think it's just seeing what he did the rest of the year and his career. you don't want to get troy hudson-ed. basically opposite of dlo--he was great for us until the denver series. then everyone decided he was trash. false. and gabe's big series against boston doesn't outweigh 300 games of other evidence.

i'm not down on the move, but i get the concerns. i wouldn't have spent full mle on retaining schroder, either, btw.

I don’t think “everyone decided he was trash.” I think that there are those of us who see the pattern of him underperforming each post season and get worried that it will happen again. We signed Vincent for a very reasonable contract that can be moved if for some reason he doesn’t pan out.

i think it's about what can be done with that 12.5 million. we had to cut two rotation-quality players to get that money, and we had to let an integral part of our playoff run go, too.

the contract is definitely reasonable, though. can't argue that.

message sent to DLO IMHO. Step up, or get replaced. Would not be surprised to see either moved around the trade deadline, but I guess DLO can cooperate or not.

i think gabe will have a legit shot at taking the starting job, tbh. it will come down to shotmaking for him. dlo has already proven he fits with the starters, especially if vando is part of it. if we go with rui, maybe vincent is the right call. gotta see how everyone fits.

Honestly I probably would have preferred to keep DS as I think continuity is a big plus. ALways has been in the NBA but even more so now. This would have DS 3rd year with AD and Lebron and they were obviously comfortable with him.

In terms of talent, it's a net neutral most likely as DS is a better POA defender and getting to the rim then Vincent but at the end of the day I can see why the FO decided to go against Ham. Couldn't trust D.Lo to be out there against certain teams and when you had DS the spacing suffered. This was a pure bet IMO that VIncent is a better outside shooter with the same tenacity that DS gave you on offense/defense. I don't have to like it but I understand the logic of it and it makes sense despite my preferences

big issue for me is that DS's decision making was head-scratchingly bad in some key moments in the playoffs. can't remember the exact plays, but i remember watching and being like...what on god's green earth is he thinking will happen here? it's possible rob&co decided that just not having that is worth losing some of the other stuff. and i get that. throwing the ball to the other team is one of the worst things you can do. so not doing that is good.
